The Sword - Warp Riders (I'd been kind of burnt on the Sword, but this album is decent)

One I missed in 2011, but would have been a top 5 - Other Lives - Tamer Animals

St. Vincent - "Strange Mercy"
drool...
-Fleet Foxes, yes sur. I like the older stuff better but I can't deny that this guy is on a Stevie Nicks-esque, sent-to-earth-to-create-music type of level.
-Ill Bill / Vinnie Paz - "Heavy Metal Kings"... just disgusting. Hardest shit I've heard in a long time. They also win gayest cover art of 2011 (see below)
Johnathan Wilson. The whole album (Gentle Spirit) doesn't do it for me, but this tune takes me there. Hits around 0:50... don't mind the weird-ass intro space-shit.

I've put a lot of thought into this which is why I'm making my final decision on May 6th.
The best album released in 2011 was Tunnel Blanket by This Will Destroy You.

OK - I changed my mind. The best album of 2011 was Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will by Mogwai.

After listening to it for a while, I'm gonna have to say Departing by The Rural Alberta Advantage is my favourite album of 2011. Fleet Foxes had a great album too, but I'm really digging The RAA at the moment. Took me a while to come around to his voice, but it grew on me and now I love most of their songs.
Oh, and any video that makes fun of hipster kids gets my approval:
