I realized that the boxes of lights and decorations are still in the house. I am now contemplating getting a Christmas tree. It’s been two years since the last one went down

If Trading Places is a Christmas movie, does it move enough water to be a top 5?

Yes. No.
I watched the tail end of Die Hard falling asleep the other night. Now that is definitely a Christmas movie.
Top 5 list would be difficult, but here goes:
5. It's a Wonderful Life
4. White Christmas
3. Home Alone
2. Christmas Vacation
1. A Christmas Story
Also receiving votes:
A Charlie Brown Christmas (more of a special, but it's still great)
Elf
Four Christmases (this one gets funnier with age for some reason)
Die Hard
Scrooged
A Very Murray Christmas (again, more of a special, but its good)
A Christmas Carol (either of the newer, very dark FX version; Muppet Christmas Carol; George C. Scott version; or The Man Who Invented Christmas are all good)
Miracle on 34th StreetI still call it The Jake.

Polar Express should be on that list. And, possibly, Gremlins. And, definitely, Bad Santa. Klaus was good, too.
And when you've made it through all those films there is always the business christmas genre on lifetime and hallmark.

Family Man is a great overlooked Christmas movie.

Man Four Christmases is a staple in this house now. And we usually dust off Just Friends for a funny holiday movie. Outside of the obvious top tier movies, my kids and I enjoy Arthur Christmas as well.
edit: good call with Family Man, KQ. And of course Bad Santa. I have a hard time with Polar Express. Its that nasally asshole kid on the train that I cant stand.

If you think the Know-It-All kid from Polar Express is annoying watch The Claus Family on Netflix. We watched English dubbed version over the weekend and it was horrible. I wanted to yell out for the grandpa to backhand his winey grandson most of the movie.

Too true, this was a miss on my part.
Can you, or Art, without looking confirm or deny (without google) that the very attractive woman that showed up wearing nothing more than a trenchcoat at Jack's apartment is the same woman he considered having an affair with in his "glimpse" reality (at the bowling alley)?
I have yet to confirm, as its a long running debate in my house as well and I kind of like it that way.I still call it The Jake.

Always in the MT rotation. Kinda the yang to IAWL's ying. "So you weren't there. if you were it would look like this." Don Cheadle so perfectly underplays his character, an early Piven is spot-on as the buddy. if you're dry eyed at "I knew you'd come back" well. You're a stronger man than me.
and of course. I once read that "Tia Lione is just about enough to make a man walk away from 120 billion.""Can't you see..."

"I don't think the normal rules apply"
"There is not one man in the tri-county area that wouldn't give his left nut to be with kate. and you're gonna fuck it up" god piven had some great lines.
Intriguing question. Will watch tonight. no, not tonight, allman-betts. soon."Can't you see..."

100% on all this.
To this day I can't not hear The Stones' Beast of Burden and not think of Tea Leoni in the shower.
Cheadle was so great in his role.
And how the fuck did I not see that Allman-Betts is playing at the Coca-Cola Roxy tonight?!?!?I still call it The Jake.

I'm gonna get called sappy here. I understand that and I'll own it. That said...
White Christmas is by far, hands down, in a league of it's own, the best Christmas Movie Of All Time. There are others funnier, cooler, more core, more family, etc, but pound for pound nothing comes close to the total package.

Since I’m not going to be at Allman-Betts like MT, I’m gonna queue up Family Man and further my research on Ms Trenchcoat/Bowlingalley.
I still call it The Jake.
