New Christmas drink I'm trying tonight. Cranberry Gin and Tonic.

Boil fresh cranberries with a little bit of sugar, separate the reduction from the boiled down berries and reserve them. Pour a bit of that in with some Beefeater (lots) and tonic (less) and add a few of the reserved berries and a lime wedge.

Gotta say, it's pretty damn good!

^^^^^Mmmmmm, that sounds good. Without snow on the ground outside and little kids in the house, I just don't feel the whole Christmas happy buzz until maybe 48 hours before party time with the extended family. As much as I pretend I am not into little kids, they are great to have around to get you in the mood for the holidays, birthdays, Walt Disney movies etc. So you guys with little kids, enjoy the happy buzz they bring to the season. In the meantime, I am going to try BmillsSkier's recipe to get to my own happy place tonight.

Today the wretched Buenos Aires summer heat broke and a full on thunder/hail storm came raining down.

Just like christmas back home in seattle

Nothing like mulled wine, wood fires in the fire place and the smell of pine though.

I got it from an old Christmas issue of Gourmet Magazine. Here's the link: http://www.gourmet.com/recipes/2000s...gin-and-tonics

Of course when I'm drinking for one I reduce the amounts but the gist of the cranberry reduction is the same; get that and just add it to a gin and tonic - good stuff and it does feel like a nice holiday drink!

That sounds fucking amazing. Wife and I are trying it tomorrow night while watching White Christmas. I haven't been able to find the old school Miracle on 34th Street; the one from the 40's I think.

Watched It's A Wonderful Life a few days ago. That flick never fails to get the waterworks flowing.

    Winter Spiced molten chocolate cake

Edit: to make the recipe easier...make them in a muffin tin

    Bump.

Figure it'd be nice to not think about horrible tragedies, fiscal cliffs, gun control and the like for a bit - the US seems to be in a (understandable) funk this December.

I'm trying my hand at this cocktail to start then move on to some nog, bourbon and whatnot.

Merry Christmas. and a Happy New Year to all the Maggots.

I am being selfish and keeping Christmas low key this year. I took a week off from work and am enjoying just doing whatever I like. Made the usual feel good donations to salvation army, local homeless shelter. Bouhgt and donated a couple toys. And that is about it.
Regardless of the news and recent local loss of life skiing. Life is pretty dam good in my world.

I was a bit dissapointed to hear the Garbage trunk come up the street @ 7:30 this morning? What the heck, on Christmas morning?

I'm not really a fan of this holiday due to the materialistic idea of giving tons of gifts. However, being a guinea Xmas eve is quite special for us. The dinner was fantastic, 7 fish, and some snow fell in these parts to finally make it feel like the holidays. Now I don't want to move today!
    Merry Xmas to all!

Police say that Oscar A. Santos, 33, of Hempstead, was driving on Midland Street when he passed his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend. She was walking down the street with a 31-year-old man.

Police say that Santos backed up and drove his car at the victims. He hit them in the front lawn of one of the homes. Police say that Santos got out and started kicking the man in the head and body.

Although it's pretty new, I already consider it a classic.
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

No way, I love this time of year.

    Snow starts to fall,

    I get lot of presents

I love getting people good presents,

    I like the decorations,

I like the ice rink they set up downtown on the square,

    I love all the parties,

December is like one big bender,

I lime seeing all my family,

I love the time off and going on vacation,

I love all the food and cookies,

work hours are very loose around the holidays,

I like seeing the happiness in my neice's and nephew's faces,

EDIT to add some good suggestions by others I enjoy:

    Egg nog,

Fresh Squeezed OJ and Southern Comfort to start Christmas morning while our family opens presents to wash down her homemade poppyseed roll. Followed by eggs benedict and mimosas around noon.

Sitting by a fire with the dogs or my wife in silence looking at the tree,

Watching it snow outside at night with Christmas music quietly on in the background,

Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas album,

    A Charlie Brown Christmas,

    Christmas Vacation (Griswolds),

Christmas eve party at my parents and all the great food,

Taking the whole day to open presents with the fam, in no hurry,

    Midnight Mass,

The smells as mentioned: Cinnamon, pine, holly, etc,

All the family traditions (I'm lucky to have a fun family),

Cutting down my own tree with my wife and dogs,

Catching a performance of Dicken's A Christmas Carol at the theatre,

Christmas Story for on TV 24 hours straight somewhere in the house,

for me there's just too much not to love it. Sorry it's not the same for you man. Try and find something that you enjoy during the month, it's 8.4% of your year, don't let it slip away.
Quoted all the good stuff from the other thread.

Great times again this year. Wishing you and yours all the soft glow of electric sex glowing in the window you can handle this Christmas

    Merry X-Mas...shitter was full.

I have drank an absurd amount of (good) alcohol in the past week...definitely set some sort of record
Buying my kids a few things they've wanted for a long time is fun too.

    Merry Christmas y'all!

Sad this season for some reasons but also very, very happy for others. More and more it's the simple things that make this time of year happy for me. Hope you filthy animals are enjoying the season!

I'm not sure if it's the tv edited version of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation but I never caught that Aunt Bethany says as she arrives at the Griswald Home, "Don't throw me down Clark!"

Made me spit brown water out in laughter.
