Las Vegas Mt Charleston Beta

Hey guys,

I am heading down to Vegas this evening and saw they got pounded by 30". I was then intrigued to bring my gear, but don't really want to pay 60 bucks for lift tickets. Does anyone know some good touring spots around Vegas? Just some helpful tips on where I could throw a skin track in or anyone that wants to go out? A quick google search didn't pull anything up. I am really hoping to score some pow turns since the wasatch hasn't had much luck. Thanks!

Hey man, I will be heading to Mt Charleston in about an hour or two for some touring/resort riding Sat and Sun. Here is some info I attained via splitboard.com I hope it helps and maybe we will see each other out there. Good luck and be safe.

"Ive done some hiking around charlston.....There are two roads up the mountain, one goes to the skii resort proper, and the other goes out to some bavarian style lodge.....The skii resort is pinner and you could probably skin to the top within an hour.....It actually gets steeper above the resort and there is a cool avy chute that runs back to the resort...Beware of this avy path cause one year it actually took out a lift tower.....You should score some decent lines there, and no-one else hikes that shit so youll have it all to yourself"

cdlv is the man in Vegas for Mt. Charleston/Spring Mountains touring. i've never skied with him, but I've checked out his POV edits, and he knows what he's doing.

In my opinion the skiing/riding around Mt. Charleston is far better than anyone would expect. I lived in Vegas 3 years and had a blast every time I went. And I'm one of those jaded Wasatch assholes.

I am meeting one of the guys off of split.com and we are going to give it a go. Hopefully I will bring some stoke back for you guys. With 30" in the past 24 hours it will be hard not to bring some stoke especially how dry the Wasatch has been.

oh and fyi: it was 30 in the town of mt charleston, at the resort it was 48" storm total.

CDLV what time are you heading up? I just got off work and gotta pack my bags. I plan on being at the parking lot around 7? Where are some good skinners to follow?

we are planning on being up @ 6:30-7ish, either at the ski area parking lot or the lower bristlecone parking area,look for a blue jeep. haven't decided what to do but most likely going to pick a short clean line that we can lap as we have to be back in town by noon.

Wow. I never thought I'd say this but I'm actually jealous of the snow down in Vegas. Thinking of making a road trip down there to get some turns in. Way to slay it boys!

I went to LVSSR today and it was an alright day overall. I really need to get some AT Bindings and some touring gear so I can start getting to know the BC. Hopefully after the holidays I get some money to throw around(damn military). Anyone know if there are any Avy 1/Basic Awareness courses in the Spring range?

antimatter,talk to patrol @ lvssr , they do avy 1 courses every season for patrol,fire/rescue but don't really advertise it to the general public.
