HOw do you remove a heli coi?

I pulled some dynafits from my kilowatts with the intent of redrilling for binding freedom inserts. There's a heli coil in one of the holes. What is the most effective/safest/appropriate way to remove this. Probably already a thread on this but search didn't reveal any low hanging fruit.

    metal or plastic?

I usually just drill them out or fill them and mount in a different location

Update: I got it out with a needlenose plier. Was a chore, but was able to pull and bend without ripping out any wood. Was afraid to drill it out and ruin the drill bit.

They are usually alloy, so your drill bit would do fine.

FWIW, there's no such thing as plastic helicoils for skis - they're all metal.

Plastic inserts exist, but they're not helicoils, they're inserts. The difference is important.

That's what I usually use. It can help to heat the helicoil first to loose the glue.

Why remove it? Is the helicoil itself stripped?
How about just leave it in there, reuse it, or plug it?

Plugging is the easiest option, but in this case the OP needed to remove the coil in order to install inserts.

5/16" spiral flute screw extractor works beautifully.
this is what SVST sells as their "Heli coil" removal kit.
