Here's a cool brass insert to repair bad screw or insert pull-outs: https://www.boltdepot.com/Product-De...?product=23872

Drill damaged hole to 3/8", screw and epoxy in this beast, and use a syringe to put down a layer of epoxy at the bottom of the hole to seal out water. After the epoxy sets, grind it down flush with the topsheet (use lots of water while grinding to keep the insert cool, so you don't bake the epoxy), and use the same M5 machine screw that you use for regular inserts.

    Stealth Mounting
    Season 2
    Episode 1

Similar to last year, I recently moved out of my Whistler housing and am now car camping for the final month of skiing before I move back to Calif.

Last week, it was fun mounting and waxing these 3 pairs at the bottom of a stealth stairwell of a public underground parking garage in Whistler.

    - 195cm Kastle MX108 2009, used, now mounted with used Jester demos.

    - 189cm K2 ObSETHed 2011, used, now mounted with used Griffon demos.

    - 193cm Blizzard Gunsmoke 2014, used, now mounted with used Griffon demos.

All 3 skis had already been drilled for Jesters by previous owners, and Jester Demo bindings re-use all those Jester non-demo holes, plus I had to drill only 1 extra toe hole per ski for Jester demos.

MX108: I will ski on the demo bindings just to dial in my favorite position, then will remount with a non-demo binding.
ObSETHed & Gunsmoke: I already own both of those ski models with 916s mounted, and then bought these duplicates because the price was ridiculously low, so I will keep demo bindings on these duplicates for the longterm, so friends can ski them.

    Stealth Mounting
    Season 2
Episode 2 (the unexpected season finale)

I failed on my goal to mount ~20 pairs of skis during my homeless month of May, and ended up mounting only 6 pairs (and therefore only 2 episode posts). Something about that slow, grabby spring snow just made me want to keep skiing O.G. Hellbents instead of mounting more skis.

Anyway, back in May, it was fun mounting and waxing these 3 pairs at the bottom of a stealth stairwell of a public underground parking garage in Whistler.

    - 186cm Atomic Automatic 117 2013, used, now mounted with used Jester demos.

    - 188cm Rossignol RC112 2010, used, now mounted with used Griffon demos.

    - 193cm Prior Overlord 2010, used, now mounted with used S900 DIN=16 (mismatched toes & heels), for 314mm BSL at -10.5cm from true center (-0.3cm from manufacturer recommended line).

The RC112 needed repair work. Previous owner had swiss-cheesed the heel zone, then ripped out an FKS heel (duh), which also caused a short section of metal to delam.

I bought the RC112 for US$4 then waited a week for the forecasted 80F heatwave to hit, which would help epoxy to warm up and flow into the nooks & crannies of the delam. When the heatwave finally hit, the skate park and cemetery were too shady, so I kept driving and found some train tracks that were sunny and hot. Only 2 C-clamps in my toolbag, so I had to do 3 separate clamp jobs over 3 afternoons at the train tracks. To distribute clamping pressure, I used 2 beater Scott Punisher skis (plus trash in my car like a Clif bar box, plastic bags, etc.).

Day4: Each clamp job cured 1 night plus next day in my “hotbox” Subaru Outback while I skied all day.

In the end, the repair job seemed solid when I hand-flexed it, but to be extra safe, I drilled for Griffon demos with new holes safely far away from the damaged area of the mounting zone. The FKS heel pattern is so far forward that often there's no hole conflict with the heels of many other binding models.

Got the candy skis ready to go.

Funny note, when finished, my significant other looked at them from the side and goes "what does sixarp stand for?" and I'm like, honey, you're supposed to read from the top...

Anyways, still stoked how the fat BC's turned out.

Mounting up some skis with metal, I haven’t used inserts on a metal ski yet? Is the install the same? Do I drill out using the same bit? How about epoxy? Still 24 hour marine?

Tap with #12AB and use a 4.1mm bit. The rest is the same.

I will applaude you if you manage to finger thread an insert into a 4,1 mm drilled and #12AB tapped hole! Good luck!

Drill needs to be somewhere near 1/4" and tap 5/16" to fit inserts.

I picked up some look hm10 demo bindings (dynafit). Any tips on mounting? I’ll check the hole pattern against my jigarex radical tlt plate but where to set the distance for max adjustability?

IME it kinda depends on your BSL and if you are just trying to accommodate all boots in which case the normal mount will probably fit all boots OR are you trying to experiment with different boot center ?

I got a short BSL so I had to remount the heel forward another inch from the stock mount to try really forward mounts on some DPS wailers or i would run out of heel adj so moving the Heel up allowed me to go +6, i settled on +4 the local shop was mounting them at +2

I’m in a similar boat...gotta mount some Look HM12’s I got off of LVS. (tho not demo)
The most onerous part I’ve found reading up on these is the heel tower assembly needs to be removed in order to remove the brake assembly to fasten the heel plate. Wildsnow’s got instructions for that.

Okay, that’s what I was thinking, Purdy sure that advise was for mounting metal skis with traditional screws.

So the install is the same, drill with 6.5mm bit, tap, and install BF inserts.
