Yes, get to the wood, and then you’re fine.

Right, once the thick part of the tap is through the top laminate layers you can stop.

Great thanks, I would have tried running the tap all the way down.

Looking pretty sensational, though the white skis on a white background in a somewhat poorly lit hallway does not exactly showcase the skis to their full potential Can't wait to hear how you get on with them.

Their weight is pretty damned nice for their inteded use - so seems like you've made some solid decisions there.

Thanks. And yeah, you're right of course. My (poor) excuse is that there isn't a whole lot of daylight here up above the arctic circle these days.

I'm very curious if I'll find the ATK's as harsh feeling like you've described them.

yeah, I totally forgot about the no light factor

Don't get me wrong, ATKs ski great - just like other tech bindings such as MTNs. I just hate those occasional spikes that certain kinds of impacts can produce in tech bindings aka what I refer to as harshness. As such Vipecs are very much more my cup of tea - I'd rather carry the 200grams extra grams to forgo that feeling. I will probably revisit traditional tech bindings at some point though

I'm a big fan of using the Armada 4.1/3.5 stepped bit. That way I have the full sized hole through the top sheet/metal layer, and the screw can cut good engagements threads in the wood in the 3.5 hole.
But every time I see that Armada bit it reminds me of the 2011-2013ish Armadas with soft cheese cores that would produce a spinners on every other screw.

PSA: Mount your own fucking skis.

Woodsman 108 project complete! Thanks again to Tuco and 3Pin on some clairvoyance on mount point. Pretty much nailed it and realizing as expected my woodsman 96 about 1cm back but just going to live with that. You’re welcome for the heel bail out of the way trick. Do you have one stiffy and one regular spring on your Axls?

I flipped my wires out the way using the same method.

Yes. Super anal about tension so decided I have x9 tension settings if springs can be dual run. Love the mix @ middle which is more tension than standard at 3 but I am getting older and lighter so standard @ 3 probably fine for me but have tons of springs around so hanging tough w/ the mix approach. Thinking this is like 6 on the 9 scale w going 3 setting at mix and mid to 3 at dual stiffy 7-9. I also felt the boot flex is more compromised at 3 so this was a way to land at a more natural boot flex setting but not be too loose or too tight =) I am in a 27.0 TRace so 3 is a bit of a toe crunch for my foot. Anyway. I could go on..... Given how much I am eating and drinking today I should probably just drop the full stiffy on ‘em.

Interesting. I tried stiffy springs in Vices last year with some fresh T1s and it was a revelation...but now curious about mixing.

Go to the stiffest point you can then backpedal to comfort. More work w a stiffer set up but way more control. I am an alpine skier at heart.

Having the spring mix lets you play around with your salad.

YaBoyBlue helped me with these - hand delivered with holes installed using a Jigarex - I’ll mount the next set with mine

I gotta say, I dig the Jigarex

    and

I’m super impressed with the Shift bindings - I think I’ve got the forward pressure adjusted properly, and the toe height seemed dead nuts on without fucking with it

and the Enforcer 104 shape looks sweet - I can’t wait to get out on these

No, this is one of their custom topsheets. Not to worry, their stock models still have goats on them.

Line vision was the same. I drilled 4.1 after the first hole took an eternity with the 3.5. Threaded nicely with the screws directly.

Related note - if you’re using the kingpin template for the alpinist —

it’s the BACK two holes that are shared, not the front two.

Not sure what sort of colossal idiot would make that mistake, but just wanted to pre-emptively drop that knowledge nugget.

Gah. Yeah. Amateur hour in the chicken coop. Fortunately, i was able to plug the front most holes of the heel, use the others as the front and center punch the back holes through the adjustment track fairly easily. 10 min fix. Only 2 extra holes per ski.

    Easily could have been worse
