GoPro is old school. You need the Hot Wheel Video Racer:
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

Just happen to have those to go with my Go Pros, so awesome.........

Buy the Vuarnets (Perfect, with softcase), otherwise the Go-Pro Vids this winter with those shades will be unrelenting........ You have been warned!!

    Go pro is great.
    shock proof
    HD
    water proof

but i've heard it's not user friendly. Others? voices of dissent?

The contour is popular. new model is bomber but pricey
The Drift is awesome. has an LCD to let you dial in the pov.
I demoed the TECH TALK JONG! pro model this spring and their performance was unparalleled which is good because I ski in a wedge most of the time - bendtheski, 2011

I have a gopro. I got some sick shots rafting and mountain biking. I haven't tried it skiing yet. It really isn't user friendly in the fact that there are quite a few menus and options with only 2 buttons to navigate it all. But I set mine in 1080p video and haven't changed it since. One button is on/off the other is start/stop. Doesn't get easier than that. I'd recommend one, the thing can take a beating. But I'd also look into the contour camera/gps/speedo.

get a gopro. figure it out at home and just leave all the settings when you go to the mountains. it gets great footage and can take a serious beating. It is absolutely 100% waterproof and i think it is easier to mount than any other camera. Its other upside is the options it has for mounts. You can mount one on anything and the mounts wont come off.

    the gopro is a curse

so easy to use (one button operation) easy to mount (once you get your shit dialed) it's just too easy to get footage
last year i recorded over 24 hours of raw footage, i'm talking almost every run of every day that was decent, and there were a lot of good days last year in the front range.

the gopro is cheap, compared to my sony handicam/sportzshot lipstick lens i used before, like 1/3 the price of that setup, and so much easier to use and smaller, the downside is that the gopro caries all it's weight on your head, rather than have just the lens on your head and the camera body somewhere else. still no comparison.

but here's the problem, going from 24 hours of raw footage to something you can actually sit down and watch without getting a blair witch headache is not easy or fun. especially if you have inferior computer hardware and software for editing, rendering and burning videos.

also the audio sucks so you may as well mute everything on the camera and add music. don't forget to synch up the music so your video doesn't look whack.

is anyone here truly satisfied with raw footage? no, it reminds you of how much time is spent traversing, looking for friends, fumbling with gear, catching your breath etc, not stuff you want to see again.

another thing is that the wide angle nature of the lens makes everything look small, and flat. that 15 foot cliff you just rocked? looks like a mogul, that 40 degree pitch? looks like 15. and the gopro/contour cameras have trouble with the bright light of bluebird days, and snow surface looses all definition. and on dark greybird days all colors are lost and almost looks black and white. You have good software for post production color-correction? I don't.

anyway there are tons of threads on the gopro so just go read up and have fun. I was shocked by the number of teletubbies our there last year, many of whom weren't even venturing off the groomers.

I like the Drift, LCD screen, you can set up your shots, playback what you just shot, a remote, zoom.

The new version is sweet. Drift HD
