    VJJ Size Question

I am planning to buy the VJJ Armada ski which is a backcountry rocker ski. I'm not sure if I should go with the 165 or 175 length. I'm 5'6", 115 lbs. I would classify myself as medium to advanced skier (or something like that). I'm not a super aggresive skier, but pretty comfortable on most terrain. I'm not that smooth through tight trees.

The ski shop thinks I should go with the 175's but I just don't want to get something I can't handle. Thanks for any advice!

Seriously? Is that the best you can do? Lame. If anyone has an actual answer for me, I would appreciate it. Ps- I didn't name the skis but that is what they are called, so can we please get past that.

    Definitely not.

We need to see pics of the VJJ to gauge size. A bigger VJJ stands up better to aggressive use, though a smaller VJJ can be a lot of fun if you have the skill and balance. But once again, we'd need to see pics to know for sure.

Oh, and you may have better luck in Tech Talk. There will be an equal number of childish responses, no doubt, but you may get useful answers too

I know, hilarious, but kinda akward when the guy at the ski shop is trying to sell it. Here is a link. http://armadaskis.com/product/skis/vjj/
Biggest concern with 175 is tight trees and that I'm not super strong, but don't want to end up to short either.....

But seriously, if you're comfortable skiing deeper snow, including tracked-out and choppy snow and crud, then go with the 175. The JJ skis short for its length.

hey Merlyle- where do you ski? What length are your current skis?
I would say the 175 just bc with the rocker it will ski a bit shorter anyway. Although going with the 165 would probably be fine too, if you are going to be skiing in deep snow it might feel short and keep you from being able to drive the ski.
I was checking out those skis too- they look sweet.
Let us know what you think about them.

Although The VJJ Size is very important, too small is great but too big is no good. You may want to check out a sweet new pair of Tech Talk Jongfirst at the demo days at your local resort to see what you realy want...

Ok, now that this is in the right place and I've made my joke...

My GF is 5'6" 125 lbs. She's a good skier but not ridiculously aggressive. She found the 175 JJ a lot of ski to drive when she demoed it, and same with the 176 S7W. She finally ended up on 168 S3s and couldn't be happier. With the fatter skis in the longer lengths, she found them to be too heavy and cumbersome, especially in the trees. So I'd say that unless you're a real ripper, the 165 would probably be a good length.

5' 6" and 115? Without telling us where you ski, or how often, but looking at the fact that it's "backcountry rocker," I'd say you need to post some naked pictures of yourself.
    No longer stuck.

Definitely glad the forum just chased off the 5'6" 115lb girl. Too many of those hanging around here.

My gut says go with the 165. The only reason to go longer is for stability at speed and float. Doesn't sound like you will need more than the 165 has to offer.

Would be able to give better info if we knew where you ski.

It's not necessarily the size of the VJJ that is critical, but rather how the VJJ will feel when ridden...

Seriously, though, I think a 165 is the call at your weight. It will have plenty of float in pow, but be easier to manuever in the trees, etc.

Since she's mainly gotten teased or hit on, I'll be a little nicer than usual:

There are a number of factors to consider. But I'd say that if you're new to skiing or hoping to grow into the ski, get the longer length. If you want a ski you'll like right now and don't plan on spending more time in the gym or an increased amount of time on the slopes, get the shorter length. The chances of you overpowering the ski are small unless you're ripping. Until this year, the sizes only went up to 185. The other option is to go with another ski that comes in a 170 length, which D(C) already mentioned.

And to echo D(C) again, please post a review here after you have some time on them. Many of us often end up for girlfriends/wives/moms, and we appreciate good reviews of women's skis, despite the prevalent caveman-like attitude here.

    My thoughts exactly!

I can only imagine the conversation in the Armada office:

"We should make a womens version of the JJ, but what should we call it?"
"how about we just add a 'V' to the beginning? That would work"
    "hmmm, VJJ.....vajaja"
