    Solly 912 vs 914 JONG

This has to be posted on here, but the search function won't let me search for numbers. 914, only difference is DIN/spring?

solidity of housing too. More metal in the 914, so generally more bombproof. Does increase the weight too though

if you ski at 10 DIN or below, get the 912's.
    if above, get the 914's.

    You sure about that?

Sure you're not thinking about the 916, which has more metal?

the 912's have a *little* more plastic in the heel than the 914's. if you subtract out the differance between the ti track of the 912's and the steel track of the 914's, it is about 20 grams. not that much.

edit: this actually could just be the differance in spring weight though.... which would make sense... they are basically the same none the less.

    Hmmm...

yeah, I think. It's not much but if I remeber right it does have bit metal, esp. round the heel piece.

Not 100% though now... you're def right about the 916, but I think is kinda in between the 12 and 16.

    Schit, I dunno now...!

I believe the heel spring housing (that is, the part which encloses the retension spring and is located between the heel cup pivot and the engage/disengage lever) is plastic on the 912 and metal the 914. The 912 Ti has a titanium heel track instead of steel on the 914.

The 916 is a different design alltogether.

Edit: Here's the part I mean:

The silver component on the heel.

According to Sallie data I compiled a year ago, the weight difference between a 912Ti and 914 w/plastic 10-mm lifters is about 0.6 lbs per pair. I have snapped the Ti heel track on 912 Ti's, but still ski them. No problems with 914's to date.

so that is about 250 grams. the differance between the ti track and the steel track is 180 grams, according to salomonsport.com (912ti and 912 FIS)

so about 70 or so grams. my guess this is the spring, not extra housing.
either way, the 914 is not *much* beefier.

All I'm going to say is this. Be prepared to carry a screwdriver with you, because the toe wings on 912/14s are always loosening. It's the main reason why I buy 916s instead. But I'm a fat ass and can get away with using race binders.

    My advice: buy Looks/Rossis instead.

Blue locktite? If you use only one pair of boots, go Ronco on your bindings, "set it and forget it".

Been on Looks for the past 5 seasons and been stoked on them and will likely get another pair. Just had a chance to pick up a pair of sollys at a good price and considered the switch.

salomon had a bad batch of loctite on a run of 912/14's a year or two ago.
all you need to do is warrenty them, and get a new set
