Don't sell shit to...
Motherfucking JONGS! Seriously, I have seen so many people here complaining about no PM privileges and other random shit because they are newbs. I understand if you need the cash, but our community gives deals to other mags because we support each other. Stop selling to no-post JONGS. You're doing this place a disservice selling to them.
PS - If you do... don't come crying when you get fleeced.I think you have me confused with someone who is far less awesome.

Says the jong who's been here for 1 year.....

Says the jong who doesn't realize it's just a new account and the OP has been around much longer than a year....
Seriously though - as much as it pains me to agree with advres, I've noticed a lot of solid gear getting snapped up at killer prices by total jongs. There should be an established waiting period (day or two?) before deals are given to sub (insert a number here) posters so mags get a shot at the shit before johnny jong from epicski pounces on all of the deals.

I agree to an extent. If someone can vouch that they are a good dude and skier and just don't post on TGR, I don't mind. I have lots of skier friends who are really into skiing and would help a fellow skier out on the hill or in the bc, but aren't on TGR. I'm not apposed to them getting a deal.
Worse than 2 post jongs are the guys with 87 posts and 3 years of history and they have done nothing but buy up deals and sell shit for top dollar constantly bumping their $325 barely used dukes. I'm about to sell powderboards and Tahoes for dirt cheap and if a gear swap whore wants them they are going to have to make a donation to Big Daddy's flood relief fund.

I dont claim to know everyone on this forum and have to go by join date. My bad advers.
I do agree though. I've seen this place explode over the years and alot of people are just here to take advantage, not contribute.

The solution is easy. No dibs for jongs. If I'm sellinga 5 year old Denali fleece, a jong can go ahead and take it. But if I'm passing on sweet deal on RP112's/Dynafits/FKS I'll sell to:
1) Somebody I ski with
2) Someone who is or has been a regular contributor of stoke/deals/knowledge
3) Someone who has been around more than a few months

I agree with the sentiment of the OP, but as someone who is just barely past what would be considered "Jong" status, be careful to not paint with too broad a brush stroke (I know, this may be the wrong place for that comment). I think I do more passing on of deals than swapping up of deals and have since I started here. Just remember as individual buyers and sellers we can determine who we sell to and when. So if Billydingleberry with 3 posts is first to dibs your $250 FT 12s you can be straight up with him to let him know that if nobody else wants em within 4 or 5 days than they can be his, but he will automatically just get scraps, not the feast. I don't think we need an organized conspiracy. IMHO.

But there are rules ---- lots and lots of em ---- and not everyone has the same interpretation!
I'm not defending the 1 poster who wants to snap up a steamin deal, but how's he gonna know?
You read an add from a local sports store and hurry down to get your good deal and the dude says, "you can't buy that, I've never seen you before" etc.

Ultimately, you can sell to who you want to, but I agree with Adrvres that new new JONGS need to get in line. Even I maybe need to get in line given how much I have contributed. I also think there are more gear flippers than people realize. I did buy some binders off a 6 post jong after I posted a WTB thread in July and went through with it after I checked up on him but they were super cheap and it took a few days for someone to have what I was looking for.

That right there is the problem Avres and Tye 1on are talking about, and you helped prove it.
A) He was being sarcastic about the rules, hence the wink.
B) This isn't Sports Authority, this is a community with people's own property. Would we like to make money yes, but we also want to hook people up with good deals, not sell quality gear to the guy on the chair that asks me if my praxis pows are the new k2's.Magic Mountain Freeride Team...bringing your grom's game to the next level.

All good points. The majority of my time here gets channeled to gearswap because of the amount of quality AND quantity: of gear and MAGS. Enjoy contributing by both buying and selling. Never been one to have high post counts on any forum, but working to change my habits here...

Wow talk about elitist. I came here and sold shit super cheap because I wanted the money. It goes both ways. Just use common sense, if you know someone and know they want that item, give them the deal! Being all uptight about a silly post count is pointless, we all end up at the bottom of the chairlift as the saying goes. No need for rules like that.
I frequent a ton of forums, I don't have time to post on all of them. Gear is just "things". Things aren't what make friendships. Lighten up I say.

No you moron. We take care of ours. Selling online without any real e-commerce company means there is an inherent amount of risk. Not only are you making sure a solid person gets your gear but also that you don't get fucked. Ask the 3 solid mags that bought my lenses. All 3 of them have got 10% off my asking price with insured shipping, one of which was across boarders and cost me $40 out of pocket to ship. I could have sold each item for MORE on ebay or POTN but I gave deals to mags whom deserve them. Not everyone deserves a deal, this isn't a socialist website.
If your JONG ass asked me for the deal I gave to iscariot or mushmouth I would have laughed in your face.I think you have me confused with someone who is far less awesome.

A seller can sell to whomever he wants obviously. And I'm sure everyone will have different "standards" to whom they sell. But at the same time, its not like there aren't quality people/skiers who dont rack up massive post counts on tgr or that you haven't personally skied with who are worthy of selling gear too however. Tho I have no doubt I'm biased since I am undoubtedly a jong.

This isn't fucking rocket science dude. I already said, sell to whomever you want if you need the money. I said that in the first post. What I was getting at is for security and to keep this place the hook up central it is, watch who the fuck you sell to. If you don't like the message, fine. But most people who have sold here would agree... we hook each other up for that sole purpose. I don't just give some asshole who snowboards on eBay a deal. Could they be cool shit? Yes. Does it mean I hook them up? No.
This is a community and those that contribute get privileges. Those that don't are freeloaders and should be last in line for the handouts.I think you have me confused with someone who is far less awesome.

As a poor student who is just getting into back country. I have appreciated the deals I have gotten from the TGR community. Without the deals, I'd be stuck riding lifts every day. If/when I do end up selling my gear, I would actually it rather go to someone I know needs the deal and will rip with the gear, regardless of post count or year joined. The old-timers can get all high and mighty about it, but really, half of the "contributions" they make are telling a newbie to post in the right forum or use the search bar.

^Example of exactly the person I wouldn't give a deal to. Thanks for making my point for me toolbox.

Your prerogative.
My slag on the old-timers might have been out of turn and I do see a ton of really good advice and information being handed out. I've spent hours reading through old threads and this website really is one of the best resources for putting together information for the backcountry, based on the sheer volume of combined knowledge.
That being said, I still think you need to chill out a bit.

I thought that was pretty much standard operating procedure for this site. I'm a jong. Does that mean I'm a gaper or a scammer? No. Does it mean I don't contribute to TGR as much as others? Yes, actually that's exactly what it means. It makes sense to me that mags who contribute should get to cash in on the site that they helped build and supported for years.
Would I be pissed if I was first in line for a deal, and an established mag PM'd the seller and got the deal? Only if the seller wasn't up front about it with me."Alpine rock and steep, deep powder are what I seek, and I will always find solace there." - Bean Bowers
