The Art of Flight
I searched and didn't find this anywhere.....
Went to the Boston premiere at the Orpheum last night. Really enjoyed the movie though it didn't feel as ground breaking in many ways as That's It, That's All. Definitely some amazing shots of some of the most incredible places on earth and some truly face-melting snowboarding. These guys are just fucking killing it, they are doing shit that used to be only in video games. The huge laid-out backflip while rocketing down a dicey face right near the beginning of the film, boardslide to cork off a tree over-hanging a cliff...I mean come on. Maybe this stuff is being done elsewhere and I am just out of the loop but it blew my mind.
It didn't help that some of the locations got skunked on snow and weather, but it was a pretty mind-bending ride to go along with them.
The line in....Argentina? Where Rice and I think Landvik end up swimming acrosss a stream to GET TO DA CHOPPA was just hairy as hell. I am still amazed at their ability to get down something so steep, narrow and gnarly 2 at a time.
travis rice should not narrate. sure it makes sense to have him narrate, he's the star and they are telling a story...but he doesn't have a good voice for it honestly. that and why the HELL are there so many shots with the helicopter(s) in them. I get it, you are in amazing places with amazing scenery....I don't need to see the damn red bull helicopter in every other shot. let the scenery do the talking.
I was actually SHOCKED the Orpheum was pretty much full, I've been going to ski and snowboard movie premieres for a good number of years and have never seen so many people...I guess you get Red Bull's marketing department involved and BANG! It's DC hats as far as the eye can see. or I'm just getting old. Or both.
anyways, really good time, worth a watch if not a purchase.thats new hampshire as fuck

Thought about going, but seemed like too much snowboarding for a Thursday night. I will probably give it a watch.
Hitting up Attack of La Nina in Cambridge this week though, probably less DC hats but more neon "apres ski" shirts.

EG....if you couldn't get into that there is the MSP premiere at the brattle theater next...thursday I think.
Edit: mmmmost likely the one you mentioned is the one I mentioned but I'm out of the loop.
Advres...yeah I agree on the skier/snowboarder cross up thing. It's pretty f'n cool flick even if you don't aren't big into either sport truth be told.
Got my copy in the mail, gonna watch it again tonight.
I think the most profound effect seeing it has had is I can't get the dicey narrow south america line that's all ice and slush and rocks and just ..shit..out of my head. you ALWAYS see these guys in tits-deep untracked beautiful powder and clearly we don't get that much out our way. I guess I was able to relate to a greater degree and it shows another aspect of snow riding you rarely get to see in most movies. Shit they do is certainly high-consequence wether it's in the park or an alaskan face or what have you....but this line just really struck me as different from what I normally see in ski/snowboard porn.thats new hampshire as fuck

I usually stay away from snowboard films, but it sounds like this one is worth a watch...the commercials made it look pretty innovative as well. I think it took him two seasons to film it too and who knows how much of red bull's money
thanks for the recommendation
