Recommend me a rice cooker and a microwave....
So I need to get some kitchen appliances for the new apartment, specifically a rice cooker and a microwave. Haven't had to buy either in years so now idea what to look at. If you guys have specific models or recommendations to look at let me know.

I have a ZOJIRUSHI rice cooker. It probably 10 years old and works great. They sell replacement bowls when the non-stick gets messed up. I only need to cook rice for two people and they make a 3 cup version.

Costco has a sweet cheap one right now. It is the big boy and can steam other food on top. 30 bux, Aroma is the brand...freaking rocks. Replaced an really old one.
Microwave? fit your space and it should not matter much.Last edited by DasBlunt; 10-09-2011 at 01:00 PM.

Dude, a zonjirushi is like 40-220 bux i believe.
Mine looks like the 180 dollar version and was 30, makes brown rice like a pro and steams fish.Terje was right.

Digital rocks for pre programming. They have quick cook modes, but the rice does not come out the same as the regular mode. Rice takes time, so having it programmed, then ready when u want is cool.
If you just want quick rice, buy the cheapest you can find non-dig...I had one for 20 years without failure.Terje was right.

Rice cooker has already been covered above. Only thing I would concern myself about with a microwave is that it is at least 1000 Watts. Don't cheap out and get an 800 Watt. They are so cheap nowadays anyway.
I think you have me confused with someone who is far less awesome.

We have a 2.0cuft Amana Radarange in stainless steel. Have beaten the fuck out of it for 8 years and it still works great.

"ey go cook rice"
local translation: beat it, get the fuck out of here, your useless for anything but cooking rice. Often spoke to annoying younger siblings and ugly wives. Not doing my job right now

Learn how to cook, rice is easy.
Never ruin food with a microwave. Yay for cancer.
Try a convection mini oven/toaster oven. takes a few minutes longer but the quality is not even comparable to a dehydrating, uneven heated, molecular changing nuke box.

Nice thing about the Zojirushi is it keeps rice warm and usable all day. The good rice cookers actually take longer to cook the rice.
I have this one:

All the good ones keep it warm. No need to spend more for Japanese anymore.
Aroma @ 30 bux
Japanese brand @160
cooks the same.Terje was right.

Go team ricecooker, I was just talking shit, whatever, ricecookers are easy. set it... and forget it.
But microwaves are a different story.
I guess if your just gonna heat up your processed chemical filled hot pocket it probably won't matter, but for those that care about what they fuel their body with, here's a few links.
Oh, I bet the FDA says its ok, right? great.
