Fair enough, perhaps "fucking incompetent" was a poor choice of words. I don't doubt patrol is working hard and I don't think they are hanging out in the office playing Jenga and drinking Moet.

In the end, not getting ski terrain open is a frustration mostly for affluent white people, like missing out on the Lexus December Sales Event to Remember, or having Michael Buble cancel his concert when you are holding tickets. Not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

You would have waited to open AV too if you saw things ripping out that haven't slid in years and with people just ducking ropes all over the place because they think others are fucking incompetant when in fact they are trying to keep people safe.

Stay safe out there in the next couple days of blue skies. Remember, the kind of instability we have doesn't go away right after a storm. It lingers. And be especially careful with those mid-low elevation zones, they seem to be harboring the facets all too well.

The last few days have been wild to be out and about for sure. I saw multiple places where downed trees started slides off the NE ridge of glory on Friday. You could feel the energy pulsing off the mountain.

Naturals, all of them. A couple long slides down different aspects off the nose, but the biggest was probably Drew's slide. That's the N aspect above the nose, coming off the top of the bootpack. Most of the No Name face slid, but it happened mid-storm, so its hard to get a good grasp of exactly what happened, but you can still see the crown line up top.

No reported skier triggers S of the resort, I believe...

I got a pretty good look at most of the Pass area- might have missed some stuff though.

Naturals on Calverts (where it gets crossloaded) plus another small crown off the ridge approaching it.

A pocket pulled on Casino/ East Fork Super Bowl

Two BIG slides (naturals) on the Burbank Bowl (that is a frequent flyer)

NE side of the east face of Taylor was looking really bony, but I didn't see a crown- might have gone in the storm and gotten filled back in.

I heard Devil's Slide went, but didn't see it.

Anything else? Lots of widespread whumphing.

Did some mellow tree skiing in burnt wagon gulch today, plenty of whumphing on the skin up but only one big one on the way down, no sliding. Fun day!

Dug a pit to, scary facets as expected. Only 0,4 degree difference between the old and the new snow tho so all hope is not lost.

yesterday was crazy. powder panic for sure. i'm sure someone will be dumb enough to drop pucker by tuesday. still can't believe those previous lines that were dropped prior to the storm, especially the looker's right.

pretty sure that snowboarder had a wakeup call yesterday after getting slid off the cliffs skier's right of glory. not really sure why people were thinking it was a good idea to drop glory on a HIGH avy day, let alone during an avy warning. thought initially he might have been trying to get over to shovel or the gulch but tough to say. i won't quarterback anymore on decisions other than there are some pretty bold tracks getting layed down.

pretty sure Dub saw the 4pines one run natually while driving into the Vil yesterday. courtney was saying they saw the plume of snow racing downward.

good info. you post that on the whiteboard at glory? saw some of those noted there today. ended up skiing NE ridge. surprised at how relatively stable conditions were. hopefully the warming temps tomorow will help lock in this snowpack a little better. no fresh evidence off the main Glory runs today though.

I'd say competency is exactly why the openings got delayed. Note the locations of these accidents and who was involved. Memories are still fresh on these two fatalities and they were at the forefront of JHMRSP mind's, I would think. In Nodine's case, the resort had been blown down during the peak of the holidays and there was a lot of hope, expectations, maybe even public pressure, some would say, to get the mountain open. Big Wolly was killed by a relatively thin snowpack lying on a crappy base. Both cases involve similarities to this recent situation and so, I'd say props to the patrol for taking the time they feel the job requires. It's not April; its almost dark as night at 7am right now.

Note that the avy forecast was HIGH at ALL elevations. After the first round of snow, Anamometer/Buffalo bowl was triggered when
the patrolers skied off of South Pass traverse, a couple of other spots went down low too.

AV was late because they were controlling Saratoga Bowl, knowing that some knuckleheads would poach that.

The rumor mill has it that 75 passes were taken for poaching, a week for regular pass holders, and 2 weeks for employees.

Nice to have the full court back, goodbye to skiing groomers to the bottom.

[Snowboard Professor]

The snowboard professor went out the top gate today to check out that HUGE rip of pucker face, and get to four pines. WTF to whoever did that shit, that was bigger than the snowboard professor has ever seen that go. Hopefully it just went naturally. Broke bout three feet deep directly below the standard drop in, and the whole face gone, down to the rock.
