Gots me some new school gloves... light, snug, and they have palms...
On another note, had my choice to sport a cage validated the other game by my also cage wearing D partner. Cross checked from behind into the top right corner of our net... red paint on the cage, probably saved all of his front teeth.I don't work and I don't save, desperate women pay my way.

I've been playing a lot the last 4 years in salt lake, after like 12 years off. I love it. Even played summer league this year. I am constantly covered with bruises from blocking shots and getting cross checked. Anybody else in th SL county league?
sigless.

Fuck, busted a couple sticks... off to scrounge stick sales at stupid chain stores because the local shops cater to players with big budgets ($300 sticks wtf?).

Oh ya! Count me in. I play men's league twice a week up here. Most guys are pretty good to play against but there are always a couple of idiots who think there are scouts in the stands (disguised as buddy's girlfriend, usually)
On a related note, I have a super nice pair of Reebok 9k pants that I would send to a mag for shipping. I also have a pair of Bauer one95 skates that need a new home, size 5.5 (my shoe size is 7.5).

Aside from the late night games it's killer. I picked it up about 3 years ago after taking about 13 years off. Any maggots here play in the men's league at Boulder Valley Ice?

After six years, the itch is back. Last time I laced them up was club hockey in college. Someone school me on the finer points of life in the beer league. I'm hoping all my equipment still fits.

Tweeked a shoulder last game... dunno what the fuck I did, but it hurts to try to pick shit up off the floor and shoveling snow was painful.
I'm just glad it didn't bother me skiing.I don't work and I don't save, desperate women pay my way.

This, except it's been sixteen years since I last played college club. Hit some stick and pucks and a few pickup games, and joined our local men's rec league this month. Two games in, and I'm having a blast. My hands apparently turned to stone and I'm sucking wind hard after each shift, but it's pretty damn fun.

What TeCeBe says, but from what I hear sticks may be similar to when you last played. When I quit it was still mostly wood sticks, and Easton aluminum 2-pieces were the top tech in the pre-composite OPS days.
Coming back, I was most disappointed to find out that full shields hadn't advanced at all from the Itechs of the early 90's. Cages are still the best if you are going full face, fishbowls still suck.

Yeah I expect sticks should be solid. Tho i'm disappointed to see innovative got bought out by warrior. Guess that'll be a collectible on the ice. Have some pro stock Graf 707s so I should be solid there. Looking at some Graf pants and either a reebok or easton helmet. But I've got to ditch my half cage/shield combo that thing has some big time wear. Probably will go with the cage. Not really thrilled about losing permanent teeth after having lost some as a kid.

Sticks without a doubt. Skates have changed a bit too, but otherwise not too much has changed in the last 8 years in my opinion. I personally think gloves have regressed but thats just my two cents.
I still wear my old ass Jofa helmet. The things comfortable and makes me look like a total jackass, which is why i've always loved the thing.
I wear crocs for the style, not the comfort.

Agree sticks and skates are the biggest change. Sticks these days are like cheating.
I play with a guy who still wears the full borje salming type jofa lid from way-back-when. So awesome.

ugh, do what you can to avoid the cheesegrater. This is from somebody who lost a couple chicklets to an errant puck a few years back.
Good half-shield (NOT a $20 itech) and a proper mouthguard from the dentist is my current go-to. I wouldn't dare go without a visor anymore though (amazed I used to).
The advances in sticks are there if you spend upwards of $125 on a stick; otherwise, you're essentially getting something that performs equivalent to wood but for a lot more money.
As far as gloves are concerned, look for something pro-return on ebay. Canadian/US made stuff is good, China made (virtually everything retail), not so much.
Another good investment is a good set of shin pads. Just picked up a set that will knock down shots and keep you safe from pretty much any angle. They ain't cheap though.
