This is the first rover with microphones. Can't wait till we hear a Martian ask why we keep sending them all our shit. There will be a lot of bass in the audio because of the thinner atmosphere and its composition. Basically picture Barry White going on about toy cars and their extraneous packaging.

Or a Martian Karen: I was just slithering down my local dry riverbed and almost got hit in the head by a heat shield! I want to speak to the Earth manager!

We flew a microphone on the phoenix mardi(2008), but due to technical concerns on the spacecraft side of the interface, NASA decided to not allow MARDI to operate. It was a reflight of the polar lander MARDI. So we have been trying to fly a microphone for awhile and the other instruments on m20 are the first to have success.

Love to hear a geologist's take on those rocks. To me, those look like pockets of oxidation in them.

Some really cool stuff showed up last night, they told us on shift that will not be public until Monday press conference. Hopefully HQ will get something out over weekend.

    New Mars Cameras

Teaching this to 3rd graders.....even with crap ass pandemic year, Mars Perseverance landing has been a highlight of year.....we create a “lander” in school and this week I throw their “landers” off the roof of the school and onto the parking lot/surface of Mars.......lol. They made some really cool air bag protection systems for their “egg”/cargo this year. Lots of great parachutes. Having all the footage from Perseverance increased the stoke.

Been using some of your guys links......thanks...keep em coming. Great resource.

    Nice!

Did any kid even attempt to create a parachute with a water bottle rocket combo to be like a sky crane? Maybe too advanced for 3rd graders. We did this in 7th grade as well and some of the contraptions were pretty amazing.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

    New Mars Cameras

Thanks...unfortunately no sky crane on these......but when I show the NASA actual/CGI footage, kids are definitely thinking about how they could do it...

I’ll see if I can post a video of some drops this week. I’m always surprised at the ones that work/protect the egg even without a parachute.....

We do build/launch model rockets in June to close out their 3 years of science with me.....nice way to end their time with me.

Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.
