SNOW IN THE PNW 2011/2012!
Its time to start yet another legendary thread of what will come to be a epic season in the PNW. With the first snowflakes falling into the alpine of our local ski resorts in no time we will be slaying waist deep pow lines in and around our resorts. So with that in mind I say
Welcome to the 2011/2012 Season!!
Sorry this thread is useless without pics
Today: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 33. West southwest wind around 17 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
Tonight: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 32. Breezy, with a west southwest wind between 18 and 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Yeah the forecast is at 9,000 feet but that's easily obtainable when you have a 14,000 foot volcano in your backyard!Shameless spam: Trip reports and Gear reviews and if you want to support what I do follow me on Instagram @KyleMiller411

I was waiting for someone to start this and after reading the forecast, figured it'd be today.

I noticed yesterday that there are still some patches in edelweiss bowl. Pretty amazing to think that there may still be some snow from last season lingering around while the snow starts to fall for this season. Stoked is an understatement. Knee rehab is going great. I will be ready to ride as soon as the lifts start spinning. Might even be able to get some pre-season hiking and snowmobiling in.
It's gonna be a good one.

Over the past month I have been hiking out checking unique terrain in the middle of nowhere and there is a lot of snow lingering. For example as of 1 week ago lakes above 5,500 feet in Glacier Peak wilderness were still 95% frozen!

Hey Kyle,
Mind sharing any of those pictures? I've got lots of days free next week and am looking to do some hiking and skiing. Thanks.

FUCK YEAH~!!
The Endless Winter continues. For the first time in my 36 years of skiing, 2011 will be the first season in which I will have skied at least one day in each month of the year as well as breaking the 50 day mark.

Kyle, or anyone...ever hiked or skiied out to THIS zone?
I hiked a good chunk of this in July and there was still 5-7 feet of snow still lingering. A couple miles and a few creek crossings from the sol duck hot springs parking lot, past mink lake, opens right up into some pretty sweet looking zones that all run into the valley. Hoping to make a return trip on skis.

Yes! Saw that earlier on Crystal's page. Going to get my skis mounted tomorrow, and buy some boots. Looks like it'll be another good season.

Regct I did this loop with my Girlfriend 2 weeks ago, camping at deer and heart lakes. Everything above 4500 still had snow on it with considerably deep snow fields above 5000. Mountain goats were wicked friendly, too friendly. I wish I had brought the skis along for sure.
How long do we think it will be staying cold?? I think a trip to Rainier is in my future!Just ski down there and jump off something for crying out loud!

^^Nice! It looks like a great area to camp and lap lines all weekend. To hit that after a storm would be sweeeet. Kind of a pain to get to but a cool, chill area well worth the work.
Any fishing while you were out there?
I'd be down for a rainier trip too...need to start stalking NOAA. Hell yeah! Right around the corner!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually last year I did head out that way but it was just the starting point of a 7 day treverse so we didn't stay there long.

It's not broken, it just doesn't have any power source. Runs off of batteries that are charged up by the generator. It would be nice if they could put up a little wind powered generator, and a solar panel. Would love to have that camera year round.
