I can't even imagine the amount of snow MT. Shasta or Lassen is getting right now...the flow is stalled and spinning right into them.

    another quickie storm story:

I was just graced by the surprise appearance of Sir Greydon Clark at my front door. After leaving SF around 4 in the morning, they got stuck in Pollock Pines in the foothills for a coupla hours and then bagged it. We just called CalTrans and 50 is still closed there at 12:20 PM. Never in my 4 years of living here have I heard of people not being able to get into the mountains for the entire day. Friggin crazy.

    Here is your Kirkwood report:

Yes we are snowed in. CHP caravaned in a group from 89 at around 6 pm last night.

About 18-24" of new depending on where the wind put it.

5 & 11 were open til about 12:00, shut down because of wind.

Everything else is obviously shut down.

Skiing is great as far as it goes....only about 50 people here.

    Tuesday?

Weather on the radio said this sucka has stalled. That's the good news.

Would you bring an autographed avatar photo to the Wood for me this week?

    Pete's?

1:13 PM. Mrs. Shoe just called from takin a break at the Heave. Said conditions are BETTER than last week. She used the word "bottomless" a few times as well as the phrase "face shots with every turn". Said she caught a glimpse of lph and Arty whoopin and hollerin through the trees. Total white room.

I'll be in my garage starin at the wall on my bike for a few hours.

    yes...Peets homebrew.

Argggggggghhh, I'd love to hit up all the aspects of Lower California side of Heavenly....that would be fun...that's definitely one of the great benefits of the Heav. Steep, continuous vert at the bottom of the mountain, perfect for days like today. Can't wait to get Artys report.

ok kids, what's the prediction? NWS saying possible window inbetween storms tomorrow? will they get anything good spinning tomorrow before it starts hammering again tomorrow night through Monday?

I can make Mon (drive up tomorrow night)....but sounds like it will dumping & windy all day, so Tues maybe "the day" - but of course, I have meetings Tues I can't blow off....so maybe Wed....agghhhh.....i hate this.....the angst of possibly missing "the day"....

If NWS forecast holds true, storm blows itself out Tues - it takes most of Tues for patrol to bomb - and Wed dawns blue bird and COLD with 2-3 new on top of the 3 that has already fallen...

    "BIG WEDNESDAY" could be legendary..

plus its the only day when I can get up

    Sweet Mary Mother of Jesus!!!

I am still speechless. As Mrs. Shoe can tell you; Arty and I couldn't talk therefore we were hooping and hollering and thats about all we could manage.

This was definitely a Heavenly storm, when the Wood reported 24" the Heave reported 36-48" and they weren't lying. Arty and I lapped and lapped and lapped Avalanche Bowl off gunbarrel all day. We hiked to Little Slide in Avie Bowl at least 5 times. Why did we hike on a such a huge day???? Because a short 15 minute hike led to CHEST DEEP untracked snow! Face shots don't begin to describe the turns, it was CHOKINGLY DEEP, first time in Tahoe I have had to watch when I took a breath. It was way way overhead and it just kept getting deeper. When I picked up Arty this morning his road had just been plowed and his driveway was clear. When I dropped him off this afternoon, my GMC sierra 2500 got stuck in his driveway.

As 666 said, the sustained pitch of Lower California side of Heavenly is amazing, the trees are incredible. On every run we skied right onto the road at the bottom then to the chair, never did we ski on an actual run.

Arty got some $$$$$$$$$$$ pics with his new camera.

Met up with gimpy, kellie and hop when they arrived at about noon, gimpy led a hike, I couldn't hang so i skied down to pick up Arty who had been inside buying new goggles. Never saw those guys again, but I am sure gimpy showed them the goods.

Sorry for the ramblings, too much adrenaline and I am starting to crash.

    Love,
    lph

Just talked to Gonzo and it sounds like the Gonzo show is gonna hang on the North Shore tonite with Lane Meyer after a day at homewood. Sounds like they are going to ski North shore tomorrow and try to make it to kirkwood on monday.

Bummed I am not going to get to ski with you guys.

Time for a hot tub and a beer.

666 I think Arty is probably working to get these pics ASAP. Just from the quick glance i saw he has about 10-20 money shots. I haven't looked at the video I shot but i had a problem with visibility and condensation on the lens, so i doubt it will be worthwhile.

I shot a couple of stills of him from behind, unfortunately he isn't actually visible in any of the pics due to the blower pow he left in his wake.

This is me after clearing the driveway when I got home:

The wind was really nice since it blew everything right back in my face. The driveway was down to pavement this morning; when we got back there was almost two feet of new snow.

Dudes, I tried... hard. 4AM the alarm goes off, out the door at 4:30, in Plaserville at 6:15ish... 50 is closed, fuck. Breakfast at Denny's, 50 still closed but supposed to open at 8:30... BANGER! Drive up the hill, chain up, hit Poluck Pines at 8:31, 50 is closed. Fuck. Chill in the parking lot of Safeway, shit at Taco Bell, read a tabloid and make out with my partner in crime AKA Split-Hippy. At 10:49 one of us gets a hard-on, rather than explain the pocket rocket we retreat to west bound 50 (at CalTrans' suggestion). We contemplate reentering the que on 50, but realize we have been bested and make trails to Camp Tyronne where we drink Turkish coffee and debate the cock sucking of various Bulgarian porn-starlettes. This trancemission is being broadcast from The Mission. Suck, but plans have been laid for a Tuesday mission. MUST SLAY POW...

    Exclamation

I expect to see every single picture taken by you guys in the Tahoe area today, skiing, snowblowing, snow falling, snowcaked neandertal's , houses/streets buried, any kind of snow pics. It rained all last night and all day today here in NJ.

I'm living vicariously through Tahoe, and as all of you know, there's more to life during a huge storm than skiing. For me at least, the lifestyle-type shots get me just as stoked. Simply seeing snow falling or a driveway with 6 foot banks or buried cars is amazing to me. Thanks.

wow, what a day you guys had!
Can't wait to see your pics, Arty.

The town of Mammoth is currently closed - all streets are closed (all streets), people being told to stay indoors and emergency shelters have been set up (!).

The 395 from Bishop to Bridgeport has been closed for hours, but the entire 203 closed is closed too -- this hasn't happened in 20+ years.

storm warning now till 4 am tuesday. sooo, possible tuesday and def wednesday are gonna be out of control.
lph -- that hike we were doing when you bailed wasn't really worth it. hogsback was right in the face of the wind and as such was kinda scoured, drifty and boney. and like you said, little slide kicked ass and we skinned up to big slide for one run which also kicked that ass's ass. wife permitting, i'm gonna try to hit it at 8:30 opening bell tomorrow for a quick hour fix in avy bowl
