Should get a good bit more by the end of the week, looks like? Not that I'll be able to take advantage of it. This past weekend was very expensive/painful/expensive.

Yeah, pretty much. Sometimes hard, sometimes just barely, sometimes not at all, got slightly better as the day went on, probably due to accumulation rather than warmup, stayed pretty chilly all day, virtually no wind at Rose. Rock skis highly recommended!

On the Slide side yes. But not on the Rose side as expected. Rose side had some great untracked in the trees and under the lift line; for the most part very nice underneath. Visibility much better on the Rose side too.

We've got about a foot at Donner lake near west end--very light. The roads are very slick--the antilocks kcked in a couple of times this evening. Cold snow hitting warm roads--bad combo. Drive careful.

Got to Alpine around 11. Parking lot hadn't been plowed and snow was over the top of my ski boots. They had summit running until around 2ish (?). Not much of a crowd, snow was just as everyone is describing, blower on boiler plate. I found the bottom almost constantly, and quite a few times with large rocks. It really caused me to check myself. Easily 10' on the handrail outside, was snowing last time I looked.

$25 homewood tickets on Thur/Sunday sound great. Not sure how bad their initial coverage was, but I've had some serious fun skiing there on storm days in the past. If anyone is interested in getting together over there, lemme know. I know the place fairly well (on a normal snow year) and there is enough fun stuff on storm days to enjoy. Nothing too "gnarly" though, sorry.

I'm worried about the snow stability, not as much for my sake, but for everyone around that is spoiled with sticky sierra cement. I know lots of folks who love to use Alpine's open boundaries policies without avi gear or knowledge. Let's hope some people wise up before heading out to some Alpine side country favorites, I just don't have any faith in the snow out there.

Skiing Wed-Fri. KW krew text/call if you'll be around. I need to get my fix before I piss off to NYC this weekend and then bail to Australia for a March surf trip (thus guaranteeing big dumps in the 2nd half of March)

Dork- sorry to hear about your hand. I fractured a rib in similar low tide conditions back in 04, but between the duct tape and happy pills I was skiing 2 days later.

On a side note, what does "GFS" stand for in the Tahoe Weather Discussion website? I keep reading it as "GFE", which means "Girlfriend Experience". For example, if Summer and Aoki from the Spearmint whispers in your ear that they wants to go back to your hotel suite and give you a GFE, then that is usually a blank check to do whatever the fuck you want, including the pooper.

I got to Kwood about 10 this morning. For the first time this year, I saw an SUV in the meadow at the Kwood turn off, so I knew all was right with the world.

6 was fun but I was hitting the bumps underneath.

My last time up Summit got me to the top at 2:30. Hit rock under the Sisters, coreshot my new Bibbys, and bruised my hip -- at least, it's hopefully just a bruise.

FWIW, looks like 14"+ on my deck at 6500' in Alpine.

SO true!.............When they pile up like beached whales in the meadow it's either snowing good, or the weekend.

The local hand specialist, Robertson, is really awesome at what he does. I broke my thumb really badly a couple of years ago and he fixed it up beautifully. I know it's snowing right now; but from the looks of that, I'd definitely get in to see him soon if I were you.

Keep in mind that Alpine's open boundary policy is not a perpetual green light to leave the resort. The boundaries are open unless marked as closed. I'd be surprised if they aren't mostly marked closed the next day or two. If something at Alpine is roped off, or marked with "closed" signs, that means you shouldn't go there. And usually for good reason.

On a related note, the policy and the signs pretty much tell you that you're most likely on your own if you get hurt out of bounds at Alpine. This isn't entirely true. Ski Patrol have special, portable sleds they can use to come rescue you if needed outside the boundary. And they're perfectly willing and able to come to your assistance. But if it is busy inbounds, or they're off doing AC work somewhere, it could be a long time before help arrives outside the boundaries.

I suspect that none of this is news to most maggots. But just in case, remember to be safe out there.
