2 of my 3 favorite metal bands! Got the email yesterday. Such a great lineup for a show!!!....wait....Mastadon is headlining???? Wow, Opeth is such a bigger and better band on the world stage. Strange they'd be opening. They are the biggest metal band in Europe and no offense to Mastadon, but they are way way better musicians.
Regarding Victoria: If you're gonna climb that thing on a warming day, DO NOT climb near the lookers right side. That's the side that releases biiiig. Stay left. There's a pic in that TR of a guy skinning on thin rocks. He's right in the carnage path where big wet slides come off that heated dark colored rock on the right side of the chute

Re: Mastadon FWIW, recently saw them in Atlanta and Dillinger opened for them. Which I realize isn't quite the same as Opeth opening, but it is not far off. What was even worse was 98% of the crowd not only didn't know who Dillinger was, but they weren't into them. When Mastadon finally came on they were pretty weak, then at the end they had a balloon drop. WTF?! I've been a casual Mastadon fan since I saw them play in some small venues in Atlanta way back when, but that most recent show was weak.
Back on topic:
Was at Alpine yesterday, around 11-2. Was skiing with someone who is learning, but most of the stuff off weasel that had been groomed wasn't so bad. Felt like spring.

I had some laughs at Squaw yesterday. I took two of my favorite kid rippers (friend's kids) for the day while the parents dealt with remodel issues at their house. We set out on a mission to ski every open lift. We nearly failed because Squaw was messing with us re: Squaw One. But finally they re-opened the lift at the end of the day and we completed our mission. Granite was surprisingly not bad - mostly chalky, firm, rock-strewn bumps. But KT, once it opened, delivered a filling-rattling descent except for maybe 100 yards of softened crud.
Best run was probably our first run down to Squaw Creek on pristine corduroy.
We had fun on Granite, but best laughs were around the Papoose area. Shredding the box boot-skiing:
Siberia looked inviting, but turned out to be amazingly bulletproof. The little guys were doing fine until the smaller one hooked a tip on his pole and started a slide for life. I managed to get below him and stop his slide. We laughed.
At the end of the day he decided to take it switch to the road:

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

Apparently some guy just released a new sled to replace the venerated flexible flyer for Tahoe's Epic Winter '11-'12.

finally picked up my homewood pass today around 11... skied the quad for a couple laps before heading out towards quail... surprisingly enough I skied unstracked soft sugar for the next two hours with only one other person... one of the better days of the season!

Note to adaptive ski school: I (we) could really use another car wash. The last one worked wonders.

KW is reporting 1". Regardless, this is good. Not powder day numbers, but it will help to resurface, especially in nooks and crannies.

Rose was actually buffed out with a bit of pow in the shaded trees on both sides until 3pm today. It was pretty decent. The sunnier parts of Slide side had dust on pointy crust.

I have a half day coming to me Saturday. If I get the morning, I'll be headed out west. If I get the evening shift, I'll probably hit a few buffed areas and then take one or two over by the spur. BTW, main street had a bunch of weird (what looked like wet sluff) debris in it.

1-2" was 4-6" in the lee. didnt want to make all the new snow slide out on the melt-freeze crust on steeper slopes so ima see if it bonded better in the next couple days. had a great run though as the new snow fell on more of a soft layer then a rock hard one cept in a few spots. tomorrow will be good i bet and today some of the sunbaked east aspects were the most consistent. i guess just be thankful for what we got and the runnels are gone. since we aint getting shit for the next couple weeks, keep in mind actions that might make certain lines last a bit w/ the new snow. just sayin is all. i predict good porn skiin tomorrow later the sun has softened up the east.
