    Praxis 2011/2012

    New skis. New thread.

    2012 Praxis skis are here.

Some nice looking changes and a pretty cool looking addition to the lineup.

Update: Keith says to order using code "TGR" for a 10% discount. Discount applies to sale pricing as well - simple & sweet 10% off the price listed on the Praxis site.

The Concept model, seems just like Lib Tech's C2 and Burton's flying V.

Picked up brand spanking new PROTEST 187 from Keith today.

He thought I should go longer but I've gone mach looney on the Concept 187 last year; they turn on the dime so I stayed with this length for the PROTEST. I have old Powder 195 and they aren't as quick; the Concept are just as stable at speed and straightlining.

I picked up some protests last year, and have been lusting after Pow's but couldn't decide on 185 or 195, the new 190 makes that decision easy!

The 195 is a bomber tree ski, becuase of the continous mount you can mount it pretty far forward which is great for jumping and spinning and all things soft. If you are 6ft or bigger go longer, right now if I could trade my 195s for some 200s then I would without hesitation.

In case you have not looked at the top...

Maggot Pricing: I just updated the original thread post with the following info: per email from Keith, code "TGR" gets you a 10% discount off prices listed on the Praxis site. Discount applies to sale prices.

That's a super sweet deal. AFAIK, the code will be good all season. But obviously presale pricing will not...

Anyone have thoughts on the new BPS (aka wide Concept)?

I'm thinking of picking up the BPS or Protest this season.

(edit: found a post comparing the two)

Anybody know, when the sale ends?

Im assuming its fluid depending on how many orders they get. At some point making a bomber ski for under $600 becomes a negative return for them.

I just noticed that the concept is being offered with an all black top sheet. I guess Ketih got wind of the complaints about that the current one.

I ordered a pair of ProTests. I (personal thing) wasn't fond of the new top sheet. Keith said that since they hadn't made the Protests yet that he could build a pair and put the Powder Board top on it. Perfect, eagle and mountains. Can't wait to try them.

Just placed an order for the BC's to go along with the Plum Guide bindings I bought with the group buy.

My only issue is to make sure the 180's are correct for BC work for this old fart long time skier who thinks he's still 20, lets make that 30 years old...

Bosco, that's a perfect setup for Tahoe. Ask Jim S - he has the same thing. My son has those skis, but with fixed heel bindings and he loves them too (then again, he is 16). Now you just need to order some inserts from jondrums so you can put the bindings on multiple pair of skis.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

^^^ I thought about the inserts, jondrums seems to make a great product, but I like to buy setups targeted at specific goals. I also have a fresh pair of Billy Goats and Dukes for Heavenly's side-country. And don't give me a hard time about HV, I only use the lifts to get me to the top of the mountain...

    Gotta make up my mind:

    Praxis BC 180, 106mm, 1.8kg per ski

    or

    Voile Charger 181, 112mm, 1.8kg per ski

Dynafit, all backcountry use, mostly powder. With free international shipping Voile is $100 cheaper.

Emotionally I'd rather own Praxis. And better build quality. What about shape and ride? I'm just a backcountry skier, not a hucker.

Enough said! I think you know what to do.

The backcountry's are a sweet ski that really handle all conditions very well. The tip rocker starts surprisingly far back, but is a very subtle and gradual rise, which i think really makes skinning in deeper stuff much more manageable. And because of the way the ski is built, with carbon fiber, and the subtleness of the rise, there's really no floppiness or tip chatter on the firm.

I'm thinking about 187 protests to compliment my 187 xxls this year. Any input?

I'm thinking the protests for powder days and the few soft days after and the xxls for pretty much everything else. I'm also thinking hard about 186 EHPs (also about $500), but all things being equal, I'd rather buy some praxis skis. I really like the xxls for crud and groomers but I'd like something more powder specific to go with them.

I know. I know. BC's waist fits in better with my existing shed of skis as well.

I used the BC 190 all last year for touring slack country. Great ski: all stoke and no regrets.
