When you guys take horizontal panos do you usually take the individual shots vertically? I've found that technique tends to work better. Otherwise you'll end up having to chop off something on one side or the other of the stitched photo 90% of the time it seems like.

Yes. I shoot in portrait orientation. That way you get the most megapixels possible.
