TR - Mt. Baker - July 23-24
Hasn't been much sun this month in the PNW. Needless to say, with the high pressure that moved in this past weekend, we were not alone on Baker.
Left Squamish Saturday afternoon, drove up to the Heliotrope Ridge trailhead and were hiking around 5pm. Set up at 6,200' for the night and did the Coleman-Deming route on Sunday. At 8am we crossed a rope team who had caught sunrise up top; apparently we were climbers 87 and 88 en route. Quite a different volcano ski experience than two months ago on Shasta when were the only ones on the mountain above 9,000'. Anyway, Baker's in great shape right now with snow depth well over 2 meters on the glacier; snow line is a little below 5,000'..small suncups and runnels below 8,000', but the upper mountain is silky smooth. Not exactly patch skiing out this way yet...enjoy!

very nice
I can't believe you are a rando racer because I look so much better in Lycra than you.
People who don't think the Earth is flat haven't skied Vail.

Niiiiice. Endless winter of 2011 ... so epic in PNW and California! Way to keep milking. I got burned out and hung em up, but damn the summit block of Baker looks more wintery and rimed over than Shasta!

Nice pics. I'm hoping to try again next month.

Wow! I spy fresh snow on Baker! Now I know why I was invited up there this weekend... Too many mountains to ski, not enough time...
