Is my puppy a gonner?
My 3 year old GSP has just had 9 puppies.
The ninth arrived at 6:45am today, the other all arrived before midnight last night.
The ninth is going down hill. It is getting increasingly cold, struggling to feed and yet it only appears to be less than 50 grams lighter than the next pup up the chain.
I've tried hand feeding formula. No real progress.
Should I give up on the blighter, or is there something that can work as a real remedy in this instance? Not around much these days.

I'm no vet, but the symptoms sound like undeveloped or malformed internal organs. It was able to grow while in utero but its system can't support itself on its own. Do you have a stethoscope to hear its heart and breathing? Some kind of incubator handy to keep up its core temp? And keep up the regular feeding of liquids to keep it from dehydrating - more important than nourishment at this point.
It might pull through, but without some kind of critical vet care I doubt it will make it on its own.

The vet said they could come out tomorrow - I didn't speak to them, my wife did. Implicit in this was the message that the pup wouldn't make it through the night and try not to bother - it just seems odd not giving it our best efforts.

If the bitch wont take care of it, there is a reason why. Is this the case?

Keep it warm and stimulated (rub with a warm towel), bottle feed it bitch milk replacer, or better yet learn to tube feed it. It may not make it, but you have nothing to lose.

Well, it looks like she's going to make it. Quite surprised, she's gone from being a lazy little lump to good feeding. Still, it's early days.
DasBlunt - 4 solid black, 3 bitches and 1 dog. 3 solid brown and 2 black and white ticked.
Spayed? Well, that's the plan, but we wanted her to have a litter first so that we cut down the risk of her getting cancer early on.Not around much these days.

...or increase the risk, depending on what cancer.
Glad to hear the little guy is going to make it, and prove all the nay sayers wrong. Contrary to popular belief, most runts to make it and do grow into normal health dogs.

One of the best dogs I ever had was a sickly runt; even my vet said he'd never make it. Stay strong, little pooch!

Yeah, what the hell? Talking about 9 little puppies and refusing to show us pics of the lil' buggers?
I think you have me confused with someone who is far less awesome.

Just because it hasn't been said strongly enough yet: You are a fucking dick. The guy is worried that his pup is gonna die and you feel that it's the right time to get on your soapbox and preach. Fuck you.
Puppies that are wanted and loved don't increase the population at the pound, in case you couldn't figure that out on your own.
Cool-looking pups, Shorey. But don't I count five spots?

Thanks for posting the pictures up bro.
The brown dog has gone I'm afraid. First one to be sold.
I'm terrible at posting pictures, but I'll try to get some on the doggie stoke page when things get interesting - eyes open, running about etc.
Four spots? I have no idea, the ticking is getting stronger and stronger so it may not be a spotty dog for long. Not around much these days.
