Thievery Corp. for background music only. I also have Son Volt, Tool, Andrew Bird, and Rodrigo y Gabriela stations but never listen to them anymore. After I was introduced to Radio Paradise I basically bailed on Pandora.

Lots of thumbs up/thumbs down. Just have to make sure I don't leave myself logged in on the departments work computer, otherwise people will mess with it. Each station is pretty much perfection.

I just found out about Pandora yesterday. I mean...I'd always heard about it, but heretofore I'd just thought I'd confused it with an analog to Picasso or some such, so never bothered looking it up.

It's REALLY cool !!!! I mean REALLYcool. Screw iTunes!!

It seems to have some sort of frequency/amplitude analysis engine coded into it...as the "similar" artists on 'my station' seemed to have nearly an identical vocal fingerprint. It is uncanny enough that it seems not just derived form other user interaction but from some quantitative modality. Cool shit and pretty seamless, too....'cept for the advertisements.

And Radio Paradise (whatever that is) is supposed to be even better?? I'll have to check that out.

    My current station:

    Erin McKeown

Awesome...I just found another way to artfully "waste" time on the 'net.

EDIT: I'm PISSED. Fuck Pandora. It was great when I wasn't registered....streaming similar sounding music for quite a while, and you could always erase your cookies and listen to more.

But now that I'm registered, it simply becomes shameless a 10-second-per-tune advertising vehicle for itTunes, Amazon, etc etc....whts up with THAT shit??????? Give me back Napster!

Was trying to listen to "The Weepies" and can't get more than 10 seconds of any tune unless I buy??? Baaahhh!

I've got a radar unit to re-install, auto-pilot to configure and shitloads else to do and all I get is ten seconds of music after registering?

EDIT ver 2.1: I had the "pop-ups" turned off. Turned them on. Now it's back to being COOL....in fact, VERY cool...as long as I don't have to buy anything. So...'nevermind.'

    Slightly Stoopid/the Expendables.

    Depends on my mood.

Agreed 100%, I just wasn't expecting to see Morphine in this thread.

Kind of like on Friday, I was walking through a college campus, heard a live band playing on a quad, got closer and realized they were covering "where is my mind". Huh, 20 y/o college students know the Pixies, ok maybe humanity isn't doomed. I find this surprising given some of the conversations I've had with my student workers about music. Like the one who is "into music" , but confuses The Clash and Blur(he really is into music, just newer primarily indie stuff only). This same guy went to Sasquatch in 2010, asked him what bands he saw/who played, he told me he missed "some band called Pavement". He's got good taste, but no historical perspective. If it's from pre-2003 he has no idea.

Back on topic, I really do Grooveshark more lately, because it doesn't run out, but the radio feature sucks. Pandora's radio is way better and I've had very good luck w/ my Weakerthans station. Cound some new music and most stuff on the station is at least tolerable. Good @ work background music station
I actually discovered The Weakerthans from Pandora, but I can't remember on what station. Maybe Bright Eyes. Hot Water Music is a good station too.

FWIW the absolute worst station from a band I actually like is OAR, it's full of craptastic douche rock (think Breaking Benjamin) that in reality sounds nothing like OAR, guess it has to do with what a lot of the fanbase likes and "thumbs up". Oh well, I still like OAR even if most of their fans suck.

Nice- must have missed this the first time. Jay Nazz, the drummer for Reckless Kelly, went to my high school. He was a year ahead of me.
Saw them in Boulder once, and I thought I recognized the drummer.
