    I stop.

I don't like getting hit by cars.

    Others don't stop.

    Cars don't stop either.

If you get hit, you lose.

Be predictable. Always on the defense.

If you're on the road, follow the rules.

    Seems easy enough.
    Gravity. It's the law.

    Fuckin' classic!!!

The guy took some pretty good tumbles. My favorite is into the back of the semi.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

It's amazing with all these bad cyclists around that the death rate is so much lower than people in cars.

also i got buzzed the other day, literally inches away, meanwhile there is no oncoming trafffic and i was all the way to the right. i caught up to him at a stop sign, pulled in front of his car and started cussing him out, the fucker guns it at me! i stood my ground and he stopped, punched his hood, smacked his side mirror. probably should have keyed it

To play devil's advocate, we need to know why he was outside the bike lane to begin with. The law as I find it states (N.Y. VAT. LAW 1234 : NY Code - Section 1234: Riding on roadways, shoulders, bicycle or in-line skate lanes and bicycle or in-line skate paths):

    (a) Upon all roadways, any bicycle
or in-line skate shall be driven either on a usable bicycle or in-line
skate lane or, if a usable bicycle or in-line skate lane has not been
provided, near the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway or upon a
usable right-hand shoulder in such a manner as to prevent undue
interference with the flow of traffic except when preparing for a left
turn or when reasonably necessary to avoid conditions that would make it
unsafe to continue along near the right-hand curb or edge. Conditions to
be taken into consideration include, but are not limited to, fixed or
moving objects, vehicles, bicycles, in-line skates, pedestrians,
animals, surface hazards or traffic lanes too narrow for a bicycle or
person on in-line skates and a vehicle to travel safely side-by-side
    within the lane.

So, the law says use the bike lane unless it is unusable, then be near the curb and watch out for shit. Watching out for shit implies that you can deviate to say, go around parked cars, semis, construction, cop cars. What is usable I am sure is debatable, but if this guy was ticket for simply not using a bike lane when there was an open one, he has nothing to bitch about. Granted, he should be entitled to unobstructed bike lanes if the obstruction itself is illegal. But saying, "well, other people are breaking the law" is never an excuse to breaking the law.

So, anyone know the context of his ticket?

For cyclists who actually follow laws, this is great. Won’t impact drivers and it’s a bit easier on cyclists. For cyclists who don’t follow the rules, they probably were not stopping before the change. The Idaho stop only changes stop lights and signs when another vehicle DOES NOT have the right of way. If there’s another vehicle, cyclists are supposed to stop. And really, depending on written law versus self preservation, I see some good weeding out being accomplished.

He was trying to make a Mormon joke.

Stop signs are yields. Stop lights are stop signs. Basically, if it’s safe to go, go. Pretty common sense really.

Only at a commercial card-lock station
There are a lot of people in this state who would be a danger to themselves and others if they were allowed to handle a hose that streams flammable liquid

I think it's safe to say that the average gas station attendant is less competent to pump gas than the average driver. Even in Oregon.

It's pretty funny that, of all places, Idaho had the most progressive, sensible bicycle traffic laws in the country for 30+ years.
