Thanks ... Awesome. Iceland (not necessarily for a ski trip) is on my short list.

The puffin and whale pics were not quite what I expected, but I got to say fjord in my mind over and over again so it was worth it.

    Great pics!

I can't look at pics of Iceland without thinking of Bjork and the Sugarcubes. Any sightings? Did you at least rock some Sugarcubes on the boat?

    No? T-Pain?

Very enjoyable TR. I was in Isafjordr in 2000 and it still looks the exact same. I've also heard good things about Borea Adventures from a few Icelanders

So cool! Combines two of my favorite activities skiing and sailing. Seeing a lot of TR's about water and snow lately. Must organize something.

You BASTARD !!!! You got there first! I still plan on sailing there (Well, actually coast of Greenland, and Labrador first....but much of the terrain is similar and the ski-touring is very similar).

Now back on my sailboat on the east coast (boat's in Virginia) to make that happen...although I'm sure as hell taking my time (too much!) with preparations. Just loaded aboard a newer, heavier stormsail and next to get a drogue. Just installed a better solar panel and better self-steering...my snowboard is stowed in the forepeak....so am getting there!

Nice cutter !! She looks to be about 58 or 60 feet long? Your guys foresail arrangement is exactly same as mine! Hank-on jibs tied to the lifelines when furled. Looks familar. I wouldn't trade my hank-ons for any roller-furler in the world! (even though I have to go forward for sail changes..bahh). I think hank-ons are stronger and have a better cut for heavy, offshore weather.

You guys had a hydraulic boom vang, though. I'm putting together a simple block & tackle boom vang system...hydraulic would be better.

    Great photos !!!

That place reminds me SO MUCH of Dutch Harbor and Akutan (on the Aleutian Chain, Bering Sea) that it's not even funny.

Thanks for the North Atlantic sailing/Touring stoke!!!

Alaskan, it was a 60' sloop which has been 4 times around the world. Nice boat, very stable and safe..... Even though, of course, not particularly fast. Siggi told us that surfing the ocean the boat once made some 20 knots, but his personal limit was 15 knots during a storm in iceland.

Great shots. Thanks for sharing. It's good to see some recent images from the Hornstrandir. We spent some time with Siggi and Runar (Borea Adventures) on the Aurora a few year's back. I thought you'd appreciate an image we captured over there. It was published along with a short story I wrote for Backcountry in 09. LINK

What a great TR, thanks for posting. From a trip in 2000 I remember a wild majestic country and friendly people, I've always wanted to get to as far as Hornstrandir and hope to see the Gyr falcons and sea eagles in the wild.
