Feeler: Mismatched 2006/2007 & 2007/2008 178 Lotus 120; also 997s
.
EDIT: New ski has been sold. Old ski is up for grabs (I'd sell it for just the price of shipping, or, in other words, I'd give it away). The 997s are still up for grabs (14 DIN), and I'll sell those for $60 + shipping. Holla atchaboi.
NEW PRICE: $240, shipped, for skis and bindings as a package; $175, shipped, for skis only; $75, shipped, for bindings only.
Hey, gang.
Taking a study break to think about the fact that it's probably time to cash in on some new pow sticks and quit skiing on two different skis.
For the past two seasons, I have been on my 178 Lotus 120s, one of which is from 2006-2007 and is totally flat-camber with a long-shovel tip and p-tex sidewalls, and the other is a 2007-2008 eggplant purple ski with some camber underfoot, which skis a little bit more snappy-like. The purple one has bamboo sidewalls, which are in pretty darn good shape. No major cracks, and definitely nothing that has needed epoxy.
The difference in the skis is a little noticeable, but definitely subtle. Definitely worth skiing on, and I've had a great time on them for the past two seasons, but I'm ready for an upgrade to monozygotic twins, not just brothers (or maybe dizygotic, diamniotic, dichorionic twins, as it were ). Would be an excellent gift for a moderate-to-strong skier girlfriend who's looking for pow skis but isn't the absolute most discerning gearhead in the world. The difference is more noticeable at slow speeds and on firmer snow, but why are you skiing slow on firm snow on these skis?!
Both skis have some scratches underfoot, and sidewalls are pretty darn well intact. All in all, both skis probably have about 50 days on them, (standard deviation of 15???) There have been some minor coreshots to each (your "standard wear-and-tear"), but nothing that a stick of p-tex couldn't fix. Older topsheet is in a little better shape than the new one, but nothing too serious. Some minor to moderate chips off the tip of the newer ski. All in all, pretty darn good structural integrity of both skis.
The newer ski has been drilled once (or maybe twice; I can't remember). The older ski has been drilled twice or maybe three times [Edit: See third post]. They are at either 295 or 303 mm (both of which have been my bootsoles recently, so I honestly can't remember which one they're at now; both bootsoles fit at the current mountpoint), mounted with 14-DIN Salomon 997s (all-metal yellow ones from about 2004). They're mounted right about on the line, if not .5 cm + or - . As you can see, I haven't paid that much attention to the specs on these, but it hasn't stopped me any from digging these skis heavily.
I'd like to sell both the skis and the bindings, and I'd be willing to part with each, either independently or together. It might be easier to sell to someone with a similar bootsole who's interested in the bindings, too, but it doesn't really matter to me. If anybody really needs some 14-DIN 997s, holler, and we can work out a price, and I'll sell the skis later.
I'll just throw out a number here: (Edit for new price) $240 shipped for skis and binders together. $175, shipped, for skis, and $75 shipped for binders if I'm gonna split 'em up. These are just numbers, though, and if you're interested, holler, and I'll post some pictures and work out something fair.
Just to reiterate: if you don't pay too close of attention (and especially if you don't ski slow) you don't really notice the difference in the skis. But I'm trying to be understanding of that fact with the pricing. Lemme know!

Sounds like a possibly awesome deal. I'd think that the older ski having 2 or 3 mounts is a pretty big difference though, I bet people will want to know which one it is.

Good call. I looked at the skis and remembered what the mounting story is. Unfortunately, the old one has been drilled three times. It was sent to me with one mount already on it (for a bigger bootsole, don't remember what binding). I broke the new one's brother in Snowbird and resorted to taking the older one to the shop to have it mounted and match the new one.
Dude didn't look to match up the mount points (they were about 2 - 3 cm different between new and old model), so I had two skis with two pretty different mount points, and he had to go and do it again. It was an under-the-table deal, sorta, so I didn't complain. It was 295 mm for both skis, and now the mount points match, but I got a mismatch of number of holes...
Lotta history in these skis.
Point is: old one has been drilled thrice, three times. The new one either once or twice... Sorry to say (for my sake and for other people's)."I said flotation is groovy"

Duly noted.
For the record, the skis are an hour away from me, and I won't be returning to where they are until after I take my test on June 24. In other words, I can't ship until right after that...
Hope that doesn't deter anybody. Lemme know, AlpenChronic..."I said flotation is groovy"

For the record, in the other thread, I already dropped the price to 175 for skis and 75 for bindings. Dunno if y'all saw that...

The new ski is gone pecan. The old ski is still up for grabs (I'd sell it for just the cost of shipping if anyone wants it).
I still have the 997s up for grabs. $60 + shipping will do the trick."I said flotation is groovy"

someone is in need of a single 178 lotus for skiing, may want to consider giving him priority, if this transaction has not gone through.
