doggie eyesight going bad
anything I should be aware of, or should do for her, other than not leaving obstacles in random places around the house?
She is getting on a bit but her eyesight seems to have deteriorated noticeably lately. Is there much chance of there being something to do about it?"Unfortunately, Meadows mgmt/marketing found out about the PR stash and published it on their trail map."

You need to have her checked by a competent vet. Unfortunately when it comes to eyes, I have little faith in my fellow vets. Your vet should look at the lenses, as well as the fundus, +/- measuring pressure for glaucoma, et cetera. Some things are treatable, while others are not.
The most common thing seen is lenticular sclerosis which is a aging changing and graying of the lens. It is not a true cataract, but if very advanced can cause vision issues. Diabetes induced cataracts can cause sudden blindness, and is usually pretty obvious. Things like glaucoma usually cause other signs like red, painful eyes, but can be subtle. Progressive retinal atrophy is another older dog issue where the retiina (like film in a camera) just goes bad. No treat for this, unfortunately.
Most importantly, keep her in the passenger seat, and don't let her drive, otherwise she we be like my mother. She still drives, but complains that see can't see at night or read the signs

my spitz is almost totally blind now...runs into tons of stuff but keeps plugging along. Be careful if she is off leash as she will walk off of stuff she would normally avoid.

heh, I have difficulty getting her out of the passenger seat when anyone else gets in the car.
yeah she's getting a bit tentative with curbs and the step going outside, glad I don't live in an upstairs condo right now.
thanks, guess its time for another vet visit."Unfortunately, Meadows mgmt/marketing found out about the PR stash and published it on their trail map."

Bind dogs do great as long as you don't rearrange the furniture. A lot of them get so used to hearing and smelling you hardly notice, so it is not the end of the world. Do keep her on a leash, I had one client with a blind dog walk off a small cliff, the dog, not the client (tumbled into a stream, no harm done,) so yeah they can get into trouble.
