Twin Goat Mtn 3-23-11
Apparently NO correction is due from my original thread and we can pretty much claim 1st descent on Twin Goat. According to local legend Johnny Foon, who has pioneered tons of rad ski lines in the Whistler/Pemberton/Duffy region, he has never skied Twin Goat and is pretty certain nobody else had up until we did. Foon only took some photos and added it to his site in hopes of getting after it someday. I was pretty sure that was the case, but got called out and obviously did not want to claim something if it wasn't true. I'm pretty stoked either way because it was such a rad line, but it's even more satisfying to get a 1st descent so close to home.
Spring time sunrise over the Duffy from the airport.
Why drive the Duffy when you can fly it?
Heli drop on top of Twin Goat Mtn
Audios! Kind of nice to ski the gnar 1st thing instead of at the end of a slog.
Anniversary glacier col, our exit strategy and where we were headed later in the day.
Pemberton valley over Lilloet Lake and Mt Currie to the left.
The east end of Lilloet Lake.
We slayed the main couloir on the lookers left running all the way down Twin Goat Mtn (south of Slalok in between the lake). I dropped in on the spine slightly lookers left of that little apex to the left of the entrance to the chute. The main chute was probably 45-50 degrees, but that spine was probably the steepest I've ever skied; probably 50-55. The spine line entrance made Summit Chute off Fissile feel like childs play in comparison.
Looking at the entrance to the main couloir from the top of my line.
Looking down at a skier in the main couloir.
Me dropping in on the spine line.
Jay took this shot looking down the chute; probably about 1/2 way down.
and another shot from the same point looking back up
At this point the camera got put away and I focussed on skiing. The snow conditions could not have been any better. 15cms of cold smoke on top of a very solid, stable snowpack. It was sluffing pretty well the whole way down, so I didn't stop for any pics in the couloir. The main couloir was a leg burner, probably close to 2000 vertical feet.
Shaun looking very pleased with the day so far.
Twin Goat from the bottom.
My entrance line from a distance.
The group "claiming" 1st descent on our way back up to Anniversary glacier
It took about 4hrs of pretty fast pace to beat the heat and get up to the col on Anniversary glacier.
Got out of the sketchy skin track terrain zone just in time for the miday sun to turn it into deadly mush. I was more nervous skinning up that slope than skiing the couloir.
Anniversary glacier col with Twin Goat in the background.
What TR is complete without some super ghey glacier skipping!
Obligatory Joffre Lakes shot
cool glacier scenic on the way out
All in all a pretty satisfying day, but the ski back home was a long slog and I can see why not many people would want to do that, but worth every ounce of sweat and the big blister on my heel!

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature... Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. -Helen Keller

Nope, I'm lucky to have an awesome wife who understands that I've got to get out and do my thing while I still can!
Shaun talked to Foon. Says he never skied Twin Goat, only took photos. He doesn't think anyone else had skied it up to now, so our 1st descent claim is back on. Not that it means all that much anyway, but being relatively close to home, it makes it that much more satisfying to score a line like that.

Is this the line you took?"...if you're not doing a double flip cork something, skiing spines in Haines, or doing double flip cork somethings off spines in Haines, you're pretty much just gaping."

looks good
I can't believe you are a rando racer because I look so much better in Lycra than you.
People who don't think the Earth is flat haven't skied Vail.
