Yesterday was a fine spring skiing (or even early summer skiing) day here in the Alp's "Far East". Snow is melting rapidly though.

Cramp, maybe we should join up for skiing someday!

We climbed Fadensteig at 11 PM on Friday and spent the night on top. Met up with two other friends in the morning (all of them on skinny skis and doing their short turn thingy) and did krumme ries, bockgrube and lahning (where we had deposited our gear in a snowhole). Only figured out the train was already on when we saw the crowds on top. Skiing wasnt excellent but still a nice day out in the mountains.

Here's a clip a friend made, but be easy it was the first using his new camera. I'm the guy with the yellow helmet that never manages to stay close enough to the cam. Need some videowhoring practice I guess.

Thanks for the video-link. Good overview about the recent conditions in some of the couloirs. It confirms me that our decision to skip the Krumme was quite right.

And yes, I think it would be time to make a joint skiing outing here in the region. At least the Lange Mann (Rax) should still stay in condition for the next weeks.

Right decision indeed. Eastern expositions were really too soft already. Still good to have a look at the terrain at Krumme (never done it before) looks like it could work out with fresh winter snow also. Which run is that on your pictures?

Since nobody else is putting any pics up I thought I share some from last Saturday.
It's not enough for a proper TR, but a bit more than usual on the SFE-thread.

We did the Gemsfairenstock and Clariden in the Glarner Alps (Eastern Switzerland) on a fairly hot spring day.

Look from the Gemsfairenstock to the West over the Clariden glacier

    The Toedi

Cruising along on the Clariden glacier in sauna conditions

Look from the Clariden over to Gross Duessi and Oberalpstock

Quite some exposed down climbing required on the western Clariden ridge

Getting past the Iswaendli. Upper part was good corn, lower down it got wet and sloppy due to the very high temperatures, but all in all a very good outing.

    Clariden North Face:
From what I have seen it did not look too bad.
But I have to be honest... I am not exactly sure where it goes through. I have never done it and I actually did not pay too much attention to the line when I was up there.

A group attempted it two weeks ago and stopped due to too much snow. So that would be an indicator that it could be alright.

Well what would YOU do if in need of dropping a bomp in the mid of the glacier?

Paznaun and Silvretta was not high on snow levels early April already so Klar's observation fits in.

Guys, I'm going to be in Geneva next week and am looking at getting some Dynafit bindings and boots and was just wondering if anyone can recommend some good shops? I've never been there before and am staying with a friend and I don't know where she lives, so location doesn't really matter. I'm basically just after a store with a good rep. Cheers.

unfortunately, my geneva connection is out of town this week, so i can't help you with geneva but can recommend you a couple in lausanne if that helps. pm if you need info. otherwise, you might consider a trip over to chamonix as you'll find the selection and shop options more numerous, and probably a bit cheaper than switz.

and here the guy thinks: Oh shit.....way faster than I thought I am going to be.

But I guess the plow just does not slow you down too much on a steel staircase.
