Chamonix not sucking at the moment; Brevent yesterday; little sketchalicious but very nice on most aspects:

Good weekly summary for Switzerland that shows how the bomber snowpack became a quite tricky one with these recent storms (no English version though).

So in the end of the day Engelberg did not suck.
I may even get around to posting a TR
But basically after a friday of rain, a friday night of Yucatan (Thanks Roo!), a Saturday AM of no vis and a stinking hangover (Thanks,.. Roo)
....things changed quickly.
Saturday PM was freaking awesome. No, it was really really freaking awesome. No photo proofs as we had way too much fun lapping the glacier to stop for photos. E-berg on the weekend is very much a weekend destination, and the Swiss stayed at home thinking Vis + weather would suck. So the place was pretty much empty.
Sunday was a bit different, awesome sunshine but mtn packed solid. But as always with E-berg, plenty of goods for everyone and we even slowed down a little for a few snaps.
Nick's first weekend on fatties - he likey
Above the glacier
Nick above the glacier
On the glacier
Nick in front of a waterfall
anyways there are a few more that may get posted
edit: I think I fixed the photo size problem...Last edited by cberry; 01-27-2009 at 02:48 AM. Reason: fixing photo size

20 dead as avalanches cause havoc across Europe
(CNN) -- Deadly avalanches claimed the lives of 20 people across Europe at the weekend, emergency officials said.
Rescuers recover a body at the scene of an avalanche in northeastern Turkey that killed 10 people.
In the French Alps, two female skiers -- a 75-year-old French woman and a 45-year-old Swiss woman -- died in the Savoie region in eastern France.
A day earlier, two male teenagers died in an avalanche at the Saint-Francois Longchamp ski resort, also in the Savoie region. A third person was rescued.
Also Saturday, two people died and two others were rescued after an avalanche in the neighboring Haute Savoie region. Rescue teams tried to resuscitate another 21-year-old skier after sniffer dogs found his body buried in the snow, but failed.
Meanwhile, severe weather over the weekend left an estimated 680,000 homes without electricty in southeast France, Liberation newspaper reported.
In Scotland, three males -- including two brothers from Northern Ireland and a 46-year-old Scottish man -- died Saturday after being engulfed by an avalanche on one of the country's most dangerous mountains.
The trio were in a group attempting to climb Buachaille Etive Mor, near Glencoe in northern Scotland, amid atrocious weather and warnings of a "considerable" risk of avalanche, Scotland's Herald newspaper said.
Meanwhile, a group of 10 hikers were killed when an avalanche struck at a Turkish ski resort on Sunday.
Rescue workers pulled seven survivors from the snow at the resort in Zigana, Turkey, according to Enver Salihoglu, the governor of the nearby city of Gumushane.
At least two of the survivors were hospitalized, Salihoglu told CNN Turk. Rescue efforts were halted after all climbers were accounted for, according to a spokesperson for Salihoglu.

Never one to pass up the opportunity to be a geography pedant, I would like to bring note to the fact that Zigana is in Asia Minor and not Europe. Shoot the sub.

To summarize: Safe and responsible skiing demands that you never venture off the marked pistes into the off-piste zone of death and avoid pistes for a few days after a storm to allow the snow to consolidate. It is also important to avoid lift lines on weekends when powder frenzies can lead to deadly snow rage. Pay no attention to thrill-seeking daredevils who post ski porn just to lure unsuspecting innocents to their doom. Move along now, nothing to see here .....

From Munich it's a relatively short trainride to Innsbruck, their are several resorts accessible via public transportation from there or up and down the Inntal. If he wants to defer to brand names, direct train service to St. Anton I believe.
for weather conditions I defer to the weather masters

Nice ripz-eye view!
Looks like you found the deep on both head cam ventures. I really like how it gives a feel for the angles and the crashes! Authentic reality skiing! You're setting new posting standards that will be hard to match (much work editing the vids). Keep up the good stoke!Last edited by jumpturn; 01-27-2009 at 02:15 PM.
