Not enough base yet in the trees, but sticking to more open glades avoids too much rock/tree hopping.
Arp to Yula there is a new piste been smashed in to the steep face.
The ancient lifts are going to be more stretched than ever.
Dropping off the back of Yula was great, open and at noon almost untracked.
Saw a few track all the way out to Zerotta, that's either a sled pickup or 10km walk!
    Nice. Was it quiet?

sun, mon tuesday seem like the first legit powder days in the north. sunday still sharky. monday and tuesday might be good.

and the music in the video made me think that there might be a hustler pimp car rollin through any minute. It did not appear.

    Monday Tuesday should be fun.

Wed with sun. And it stays cold so the weekend warriors may get some from 14th to 16th when many resorts open and the touring terrain has settled.

Oh and the 100-150cm should get things started in the north

Yes, very. Once you were away from the lifts. The lift lines were busy, but weekend, and only 2 lifts serving skiable pistes!

A bit breeze at Courmayeur yesterday. Yula open and untracked off the back.
Pistes skiable down to mid station.
Lots more people, but a few more lifts/runs open.

This season I am going to be living in Rome. Reaching out to see if anyone has any insight on skiing in Abruzzo- seems like the best place to get a fix when I cannot get north. I guess its not the gnar but anyone ski at/skied at Roccaraso? Is that the place to go? Thanks in advance.

Spent 5 days in Roccarasso 2 years ago. Ok resort, the town itself was completely dead (january).

Very bad visibility the 3-4 first days, even finding our way around the lower parts were difficult. Found some ok low angle trees underneath a few of the lifts.

When the sun came out it revealed a lot of nice semi-alpine terrain. Had a lot of fun the last day. Lot of touring opportunities as well.

Safetywise I'm not sure avycontrol etc is on par with the rest of the Alps.

So it seems heavy snowfalls have finally turned the north side of the alps into winter, too. But avalanche danger is very hight, too.

What did you get? What are your hints for the week-end?

This is not a commercial endeavor, just a fun thing for friends. If you're wondering about the nice website, it's because I build websites for a living.

Last year was awesome. The guide shreds so hard, but is a very competent teacher. In both the ways of backcountry travel, but also ski technique. Very low attitude for such a rad guy.

Here's him during some personal time last year, from some magazine:

I will probably be touring in the south because the north is still a bit bony. Especially with all the wind. I take the 50-60 on a fat base.

Ooh nice! Getting out this weekend for first turns. Conditions are nowhere near as good as that, but I don't care!
