I’m not sure if it is too late, but for the young buck interested in spending a Euro winter, I can put him in touch with a couple people in Klosters about a job. Obviously no guarantees, and I’d want to have a chat with him first… but happy to make connections if he passes the smell test.

Booked flights and rental car for Austria in January! Gonna hit Kitzbuhel and Schladming for the races, so let the debauchery begin! Super stoked! Hopefully can make some turns with some of you!

Where are most of you guys located?
I'm looking for work in Austria / Switzerland this coming winter and open to whatever there might be.
I've spent quite a bit of time the past two winters in Austria and a bit in Switzerland, France, Italy.
Looking to make any connections if any of you guys are in the industry.
I've spent the past 15 years between Colorado, California, Japan, and New Zealand.
Experience in lots of different roles and qualifications..

The guy who reads em around here, Sepp something or another, said it looks like a weak snow year. Of course he seems to always be dead wrong… I don’t understand why they even bother to put him in the paper.
Lots of wasps, wet summer, it’s gonna be a good one (above 1200 meters)

A weak polar vortex seems to be a common forecast.

If that happens, the polar cold should expand over the northern hemisphere and the jet stream weaken.

Beyond those claims, I'm wondering about impact and am hoping for another year like last year.

Hey gang, as I said above, I'm heading over to Austria this January. With rising baggage fees, I'm wondering if I can slim down the bags this year by not bringing a touring set up. I always have brought a set in the past, but wondering how necessary it will be this year with where we are heading. Here's where we are planning on possibly hitting:

    Zillertal
    Kitzbuhel
    Saalbach and Ski Circus
    Kitzteinhorn
    Gastein
    Schladming/Ski Amade
Dachstein glacier and Krippenstein if conditions are in

Besides Dachstein Glacier and around Krippenstein, is there anywhere on that list we would be really missing out on the goods without a touring set up? Could also rent a set up for a day or two as well I guess if I bring my Coochise for boots.

    Thanks for the help!

There's enormous great looking zones out West of Bad Gastein Stubnerkogel.
Also: https://www.flattach.at/en/winter-ac...rs-freeriding/ where access from Bad Gastein via train and short taxi.

CAST? Thats what I've run my past few trips and is perfect for short tours outside of the ski areas with one travel ski. You can certainly have a good time without touring gear, the ski areas are so massive you can find good skiing without touring. You'll likely be looking at terrain and wishing you could get there though.
Zillertal - Mayerhofen, hochfugen, and zillertal arena all have really cool easy access ski touring with short walks out or back to lifts.
Saalbach hinterglemm fiberbrunn are similar, lots of stuff close by that don't take much effort for great skiing.
Fatmaps is a good starting point for ideas and short tours from those skis areas.
Powderhounds is also good for getting a baseline of what each ski area is like. Theres so many its easy to loose track.

Those are the only areas I've been on your list but I'd also suggest ellmau skiwelt wilder kaiser, its right by kitzbuhel and big enough to have a fun day just exploring, I didn't do any touring there. Also, alpbach wildschnau skijewl is worth a visit, some short tours can find really good skiing and you'll likely drive right past it on your way from zillertal to kitzbuhl.

Thanks guys. Sounds like maybe I should still take the touring skis as in the past.

Yes, will probably hit skiwelt and Alpbach too. Just didn't include those cause figured they would be better on my alpine set up anyway.

Had just wondered cause I also prefer my alpine boots by a little bit and I hate how often Austria makes you get out of your skis for a gondola, making touring bindings more of a pain!?

There should be some snow in Siberia in early September, which is a positive signal for winter. Same thing happened last year. Something about reflecting the sun over a large land mass.

Thats all I got! Just from following Judah Cohen on twitter.

If I could afford to spend a whole month (peak season Jan/Feb) in the Alps, I would deffo bring touring skis as well (or inserts/casts), strategically planning tours on Sat/Sun. My anecdotal experience is that the weekend crowds and powrush get heavier by the year. Even week-pow-days are heavy traffic since covid and the blow up of remote/home office.

Huh...im still in ireland surfing so I haven't checked in a lot here.
And no: no indication yet. But if we can deduct anything from this year it's thst weather Patterns seem VERY persistent. So if it's wet and cool in November I'd say hooraay because this spring and summer that said pattern stayed for months. It has recently turnd warm and dry in August ( wet and cool since may), so Hopefully a change back is due for November

    fact.
Haven't seen anything disturbing in there. Maybe St. MORITZ.... but ikonistas in Moritz shouldnt be much of a problem in the quest for powder.
They can have Chamonix ,verbier, Zermatt and Kitzbühel. Destination resorts my ass.

But I see the problem. Andermatt has become more expensive and closes early. Moritz is already the most expensive resort I know so I doubt there is much room.

Once they start collecting Medium size resorts or hidden gems, I may switch to distress Mode.
