    Snow for the Euros.

Anyone fly Delta and know how flexible they are on the linear inches maximum for a ski bag? Their stated max linear inches (height+circumference) is 115”, and my bag is 117”, but bigger at the bottom and smaller at the top. Measured in the middle of the height it’s only 110”

    Headed to Chamonix next week.

I've gone with a bag that holds 200 cm skis.

They tend to be more circumspect about weight, so don't draw attention to that.

    Cham is overrated. ;-)

Sometimes it depends on the gate agent. They tend to be more focused on the weight of the bag than the length.

I might check in tomorrow - 15cm forecasted for Klosters. Monday might turn out good with more snow and good weather... anybody up for some skiing there on monday?

I am actually in Davos for the weekend and next week working unless there's a day that can't be missed (maybe Monday). Great snow quality today with marginal visibility and cautious skiing since I'm a tourist and have no idea where the sharks are...

What's the word on conditions in and around Chamonix? I was invited to join a trip the first week of April.

Not so great season so far?

I've had pretty terrible conditions the past 3 international ski trips I've been on. Thinking I'll probably not go unless things in Chamonix are good.

Edit to add- if you were wanting to ski in Europe the first week of April, where is your current bet for best conditions?

Late March / early April is prime time for Lofoten Islands (Norway). Right now it is too far to tell how it will shape up by then, but i've gone there twice around those dates and have scored great snow and average to great weather.

    I had fun too.

First real skibday 22 /23.... that is pretty sad. The two touring days were all right, but this is the first day that felt like skiing.

And did you see my ski in the powder spray explosion shot? I took the little drop blind because I was in the face shot.

Stoked you finally got some turns in, about time. But honestly, the fact that it took you so long is on you. I was based in Grenoble until I moved to the Pyrenees around Christmas, working full time most of this period, and I have 35 days in so far, just a few of which I wouldn't count as "real skiing". Started November 5th on the Galibier (not a real ski day), but the 26th of November definitely was in Alpe d'Huez:

And after Christmas was over and I had some time here in the Pyrenees, I only had one week of questionable snow (still nice skiing 400 meter couloirs):

Sure, the base was lacking throughout this period and I may have gotten a coreshot or two, but a big majority of my days have been soft snow (hard snow is common around here in periods of high pressure) with a bunch of legitimate powder days thrown in, been lucky that the pass that connects me to the resort hasn't really closed more than a few hours at a time, instead of days on end.

Anyways, hope the gift keeps on giving, even if we're looking at a snowpack roughly 30% of average.

Yeah, I'm based on Luz St sauveur and skiing couloirs 4-5 days a week.
Skied a North facing one there days ago, untracked powder, and a s facing two days ago, corn.
All the n facing stuff is cold snow.
