A "quick" early Sunday morning tour to the Gross Ruchen (central Switzerland) before the easter egg hunt with the kids in the afternoon.
The mighty North Face
Looking east from the summit to the Schaerhorn in the centre and the Toedi to the far right.
Looking west to the Bernese Alps (Schreckhorn to the right). The Valais alps slighty recognizeable far away nearly in the clouds (Weisshorn and Monte Rosa).
Upper turns in slighty wind pressed powder. Before entering the Chaellen great cream cheese.... in the Chaellen itself sometimes powder in the right aspects, but for a large part horrible breakable crust that makes you wonder if you actually can ski or not.
Anyway....... great workout with nice weather in a beautiful setting. Can't complain about it too much.

Euromags,
I am going to a meeting at the university center in Obergurgl next week (tough life, I know). Last week of their lifts running. Any tips on what I should expect? Their webcam suggests at least decent snow cover though thin at lower elevations. It's better than the nothing we got in the SW US this year anyway. I saw garyfromterrace's TR from earlier this year.
I may wind up skiing groomers with the other people from the meeting, which is about all my skills and time on snow this year allow anyway. However, I'm staying a couple of days after. Is there any easy touring to do there without getting myself in a heap of trouble (see: lack of skill/time, plus probably going solo)? Any general route or area recommendations?
If nothing else, after several days I might want to skin up to one of the huts for a change of pace. Only taking one pair of boots/skis, so hoping that bringing touring gear is not a mistake/waste of baggage.

coldfeet: the königstal is a really easy (flat), very scenic, short skin. take lift up wurmkogel, ski down vorderes wurmkar, go up to königsjoch. langtalereck hut is closest to town, hochwildehaus a little further. ramolhaus not that great if you don't want to do a traverse type thing. bergfex has maps, click on show map button upper right corner. http://www.bergfex.com/obergurgl-hochgurgl/

There's still lots to do on the slightly taller side of the valley here in Chamonix (off the Midi and the Grands Montets), but winter is almost finished in the Aiguilles Rouges. Not quite though - this was Sunday, and there's some low snow coming throughout the next week too, depending on which weather forecast you believe.
(edit: wrote a short story about this only partially-successful trip up the north face of the Belvedere)

herr_stoiber and klar, thanks for the Ötztal pointers. Has been a few days of rain down low, wet snow. Reminded that skiing heavy snow is hard, especially for a crap skier. Low vis for a couple of days, cleared up some yesterday; here are some pictures from the area (Hochgurgl). Not my tracks!
Looking from top of Wurmkogel lift towards Konigsjoch I think.
Rocks on south side of Schermerspitze, pic taken from the lift.
Some possible "interesting" decision making?

Why is this on page 2? Still plenty of snow about.
From Stubai Gletscher (mostly taken by my mate Dave as he insisted on taking my camera):
EDIT: Oh, and some footage from a mellow but fun day a few weeks back:

^^ Freak, that looks lush. What hill, what line?
It's snowing right now up high in Chamonix... hoping to get a couple more skis in before the winter is out, but the bottom of the Vallee Blanche is distressingly dry at the moment. There was fresh snow here last Friday, but you certainly have to think about where you are going - lots of activity up there.
Skinned to the base of the Grandes Jorasses, tried climbing one of the easiest ways up it, didn't get very far, skied back down. Awesome few days.
edit
I wrote a short story about our two nights in the Leschaux hut, enjoying nature but being beaten silly by her, which can be read on the link below:
