While at the Zurich HB, look for the ads for Murren.
Murren was offering package deals for lodging, brekkie, tix, and guide.
The price seemed reasonable, and Murren is a real deal place to ski,
even though, like another 100+ CH resorts, it is rarely mentioned here.Ski, Bike, Climb.

Today at Crevacol and total spring skiing galore : crust/slushaton de luxe with some touches of windblown "pow".
Well, at least got a panda look...
New snow needed direly. Hopefully the upcoming storm would come over the mountains...feels dumb that cham & other areas might get over a bloody metre of snow and this side 20cm...

VERBOTEN!!!
That is the fucking problem!!! No winter tyres in my rental car and europcar specifically said that no,no! Trust me, I would have been on that side of the watershed pronto!
Luckily I have been promised for loan a pair of winter tyres from my friends fiat panda, now checking with europcar if that is ok... I would guess...no.
Well, my legs are growing to Herman Mayer kind of proportions from skiing this crusty mank. Wich is nice...I think...

Maybe take rental car back and get one with snow tires?
Or, Man up and drive through the tunnel, park and take public transportation. No problem.
Or, put the chains on, head for GM, park, get bunk in Gîte, and walk to 'pherique.
Or, ditch rental car and take train...don't need no stinking' europecar for first trax....
Or, rent another car in alpine location where they all have snow tires....

Flying into Zurich on Monday and wondering were to head to first? Looking for somewhere with cheap lodging and accessable steep terrain that's gonna get the best of this upcoming system. Any ideas? Much appreciated!

Swiss Vignette question
Does anyone know if the 40 Euro vignette, which they say is good for one calender year, is car specific, or can I carry it from one rental car to another all season?

Yo,
The vignette sticker is dotted with perforations all over, so if you try and rip it off one windscreen (even carefullly) it'll tear. Pretty shitty, really.

But if I buy one, can I just scotch tape it to the windshield so that it looks attached, rather than permanently mounting?
Thx

And this trip is only for the weekend, and only coming out of the St Bernard tunnel to my hotel in Martigny, but I'm guessing that little strip of road is considered "autostrada" and I'm supposed to buy one because they know they can. The road from Martigny to La Chable train station/car park is definitely a surface road.

you can remove the vignette with a hairdryer and a sharp knife or a razorblade, reattaching it is possible with labello or something similar (use very little). this method works suprisingly well (ive only tried it once per vignette though), of course you shouldnt get cought... since the vignette is not that sticky anymore once removed, i did always put it close to the heating for the windshield, so i could claim it got loosened by the heat, i doubt that anyone would buy that, but still better than using tape or any kind of foil, where there would be no way for you to talk you out of it...

the road from st bernard tunnel to martigny is not autostrade.
as long as you don't get on the A9 in martigny you don't need a vignette.

Oh you annoying little twat...
Luckily the latest meteo runs show some goodies on this side as well, 20-60cm depending location so snow wise things should be sorted.
Was today at Punta Giordani and found some windblown but the winds started to be quite hard higher up & clouds forming over the ridge.
So, hopefully something materializes.
And if not, then grinding with chains to swizz/cham.

WhooooHoooo, thats good news.
When I checked, the rules stated "roads marked in green" needed the vig, then checking on Google maps it showed the road from the tunnel with green road markers, but then that may have just been Google.
Went to reserve a car at the rental here today, they're giving me some fiat 5 door, diesel, summer tires, but carry chains. I'll drive from SanRemo to Martigny Fri night, but it's still supposed to be snowing quite hard Sat AM so I'm guessing the best thing to do will be to just get it to the le Chable train station parking and take the bus up the hill, or is the gondola running?
Got some new skis to try out this weekend too, went to Nice today and bought a used ex-demo pair of "Dynastar 6th sense huge" for a decent price, my little Dynastar Sultans all mountain I carry when I travel are nice but just don't work real well in the deep.Last edited by BerettaRacer; 12-29-2011 at 12:46 PM.

The gondola from chable to verb will start around 8.30 am. If you sleep in martigny you can also consider the train from martigny to chable, it stops right in front of the gondola
