I mean, 3 weeks of high pressure and low winds...holy mother of surface hoar...

    care to give beta?

    Edit: hoar,not hoard...

Anything north facing is kinda nasty but it melts off every day below 2500 cause there is no snow. Parked my car at 1000m for 3 days and had 4cm hoar crystals growing on my windshield. Its been cold at night so keeps ground temps cold. Small beans if it snows properly.

we found today that surface hoar on top of depth hoar occasionally skis much like powder. (if there is snow somewhere now, chances are it's either bulletproof or hoar top to bottom.)

There were quite a few people skating and/or playing hockey.

It was the clearest ice I've ever seen. You could see the fish swimming underneath you.

http://www.skiinfo.fr/dates-ouvertur...-8058-fr.jhtml. May be La Plagne is open too. Otherwise i'd consider the Mt-Rose area (Alagna, Gressoney).

IMHO, in this very moment it's not worth the pain safe for training and/or for testing material on some glacier . . .

Condolences Reminds me of when I once ended up head-down with nose touching a rock having caught myself just in time after a tumble on a casual Spring hike. I was lucky that day. Hard luck Ripzalot.

    Really sad to hear.... RIP...

It does not matter where, when or how but when someone passes in the mountains its a reminder.

Not really appropriate considering the circumstances in this thread right now but I have to SPAM/Thread Jack some what. I am getting some skins from Pomoca and seeing as a roll costs 2/3 less per meter than if you buy them as pre cut lengths i.e 180cm, 190cm and so on. I wanted to ask if any of the IBK, Tirol guys wanted/needed new skins cause I would just buy a 22m roll and sell it per meter at cost + MWS. Skin tips and tails you would still need but they can usually be recycled from old skins to new skins. PM me if you are interested and if I get 10-12m together we can save on skins so we will not feel guilty when trashing them over our boney ass mountains!!

Tell your friends. If you PM me ill tell you what the roll costs and what p/m the price would be.

P.s I have some pretty fat skis so the roll is most likely to be a 130mm roll seeing as my skinniest touring skis are 101mm underfool the fattest being 130. The Difference between the 120mm and 130 is pretty minimal so I just prefer to be able to have one roll that fits on any pair of my skis the next couple of years. The roll is most likely to be the adventure glide. Not the most durable skins but they get er' done.

Sorry to hear that Ripz, vibes to the family and friends.

Was up in Lech again today for work, and it looks worse now than it did when i took and posted to photos 2 weeks ago. Seems like they gave up with the snowcannons on the sunny slopes. The piles of snow they made in zürs look like they've actually shrunk... Also it looked like all the opening posters ahve been taken down.
