i googled some stuff. cable car concessions run 40-60 years. so the axamer funicular permit could be extended, i guess. i have now clue about austrian cablerailways law. etc.
the patscherkofelbahn counted lovely 89years until they broke it down. it was said the towers cannot be serviced anymore, because they were riveted.
nobody discontinued the eiffel tower yet.
thats the problem with the concrete mafia and the local government.
they tell something is not working and it has to be replaced just for the sake of new building and making big contracts.
peace and love

This is scary. I went skiing on stubaier glacier today.
when i checked the webcam at around 10 i was not even sure if the octochair (rotadl) is running.
parking lot usage was appr 10%.... buhhh slopes were good until closing.
when the vis was good in the afternoon i got stoked but clouds moved in quickly.
with no tourists, it is scary, hard do imagine a winter like this.
a lil bit of Orwell: the parkinglot announcement speaker will every 10 minutes transmit a message in in 4 languages something like: PLEASE USE A NOSE AND MOUTH COVERING AT ALL TIME AND KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE OF 1m
so strange.
the travel warning for tirol is a heavy hitter.Last edited by nordekette; 10-13-2020 at 11:56 PM.

Mask wearing was at about 50% today in Kaunertal... regardless of signs or messages given through the loudspeakers. Lifties don’t give a fuck what you do. No social distancing at all. It was the “normal” euro experience. No one gives a fuck. That was weird. Everything taken for granted. Going to be a touring season for sure.

Hard freeze last night but no snow guns ran...
Gonna be a interesting year. Are they gonna storm us in mass or will it be slow? Hygiene plan still not released but opening day set. Less then a month to go!!!!
Border situation will be interesting, I’m a Ski Pendler....

I'm kinda hoping everything gets locked down again in November so that resorts can open with lower numbers.
My company have cut to the bone and I'm still not certain it will be enough....
The flip side is that most of the restrictions in F or CH can be read as, "so skiing is ok then!"

Lifts turned for the first time this weekend in Davos.
Visibility sucked.
Only two runs open.
It rained up to like 2300m.
I only did 4 runs because my Achilles started to hurt.
And it was f-ing awesome to be back up a mountain on skis!!!!!!!!!
Wasn’t super busy. Masks in gondola. Plain neck gaiter or scarf doesn’t cut it. Stopped at a mountain restaurant for a Huuskafi - near paranoia about cleanliness and keeping people far apart.
Will be interesting to see how they handle things when it gets busy. But for now, the mountain felt like the safest place in Yurp.

Glad to see you Eurok00ks at it, the achilles holding up, I assume the RV is rolling, the captain back in skis and no Japan for Idris?

Nah no rv straight from home. And bw how does it hurt? I've never had any issues with my Achilles while skiing (and I didn't do much pt afterwards, which ducks because it's still smaller than the other one ) , but I had surgery right the next day after it happened because I knew some climbing surgeon who wrote me on the surgery list of his boss. I guess that may have helped.
Edit, conditions update: but the three laps to Trübsee via the Sommer weg were type 1 fluffy fun. Went home at 2pm because everything was tracked except Steinberg, but I did not want another lap down low . Skied 5k of pow in October. Friday and even Saturday look like they have potential. Not bad... Not bad at all. It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.

well we have our fair share of idiots. Engelberg did not enforce distancing in the rotair. First one up was a mess from my perspective. I don't know how they are going to do it during the main season, if they stay open that is. Or If the border stays open. Switz is a major hot spot compared to Germany, which isnt doing great either atm.

Friday is usually when the next info comes out for Austria. Wonder if we will follow suit now that all our neighbours are locking down.

Do it now and try and salvage a bit of a winter season. Not to many villages in Tyrol not dependent on it....
