    Too deep in Nufenen, Switzerland!
    Too much snow for touring!!!

Not too often I have to say this, but today there was simply too much snow for touring.
In the town of Nufenen around 1.0m and higher up probably 1.20m plus of fresh snow.

It did not help that we were only a party of two, and also with snowshoes (I am doing a bit of training with snowshoes, so no splitboard today).
It sucked out so much energy just to do about 750 vertical meters in 5 hours! Man, that’s the lowest average ever for me.

We could enjoy a perfect wumping-concert today on the way up, so it was clear to not risk anything and stay on the low angle stuff.
We went from the town of Nufenen north to the Steinigboda and then another 300 vertical meters.
The southern slopes would be perfect for nice lines, but today we even had problems on the way down. Sometimes you got stuck on the flat parts and had to dig yourself out again.

But at least it was a good cardio training.

Most of the way up we were fighting the hip deep snow

    up and up and up…

    Highway to heaven

A few nice turns were had on the way down

Every once in a while the sun even poked out (especially at the end when we were right above the town of Nufenen again)

Should be great the coming weeks in those parts of Switzerland.

too bad verb was so foggy yesterday. I could decently ski 3 hours in the morning in spots protected from the W clouds, then I gave up

In teh Pyrenées the conditions were great this past weekend.
Using french words: c'est gavé !!!!

French Pyrenées resorts are reporting big amounts of snow. For example
    -Piau Engaly: 195cm at 1700m-300cm at 2500m
    -Cauterets: 230cm at 1700m-350cm at 2400m

We had a big playgorund in Andorra
    3 pics from Arcalís (saturday)

4 pics from Grandvalira (Sunday, I skied alones, sorry, no action pics)

And more in the way, maybe 1 meter more during this week.

No shit! My friends told me all about the polvo profundo afuera de pista and I almost, no... did start crying. It's not everyday that I get offered free week-long heli trips, so turning them down is quite the character-building experience.

At least I have some hella gnar in my backyard right now.

the othe side of the lake was cool
and yeah they didn't open either, but we skinned up the groomed piste to do some tree laps. well until we saw the massive debris pile that had taken out trees and had its run out zone on the piste
actually the trees would have been safe, but skinning through the 80-100cm of fresh was impossible. and yes i tried.....
my GF was waist deep in the snow...WITH snowshoes!
i still made a little pillow line after i crawled up 30m vertical in 40minutes

    yesterda though was ALL TIME!

~50cm over the weekend while the temperatures were down to -16C.

    Can you say light snow?
    Looking for the next turn..

    How's the coming weekend looking?
Had planned to head down for 4 days or so, but not sure. Got an offer for free accomodation in Laax the weekend after with some mates which is also tempting.

I would have been there - if the roads/trains had been open

Zuoz was fun - I was fed up with the bullshit of Celerina/Corvatsch (I guess they opened 3 lifts on Sunday ) /etc.. Not all time - 500m vert of 25 degree pow is not "all time" - but fun in a wide open powder way.

    Livigno sucks ass btw.

    10euro? Tell them you'll share a bunk

Can you expand on this, and give me a better idea of the area ?? I have never seen a trail map of Livigno. There is some tree skiing, is it no good, or was the snow just bad when you were there?

why not skinned up to Passo Zube and found no tracks going to the main couloir (name anyone?) ... went for lunch and got to Passo della Civera, the run down the Valle d'Otro was really wind affected and lot of slides all around ... still fun though.

This place is totally awesome ... staying here during the week you feel like the whole mountain is just yours ... really sad to leave, arrivederci Alagna!
