last day of the season at G3000 was a bit undramatic - cold clouds and whiteout conditions from 3000-2500m. no chance to ski in shorts and tshirts this year.

i got in 42 days, with about 30 of them powder days.

    bring on the biking weather!

No powder since ages ... however, at least the corn season continues in the hills around Vienna.

    May, 3rd, 2009:

Walking up the hill ... where is the snow?

Funny enough the southern (!) side of the mountain had all the snow ...

Routefinding was sometimes a little bit complex due to crevasse-like 'holes' ...

    Did I mention walking ... ?

There's a slim chance I could sneak out for turns over the weekend. Due to business obligations early next week I need to stay around eastern Suisse and western Austria.

So where to go right now, WWMD?

Diavolezza/Bernina (near St. Moritz) is still open (until late May, I guess). 2000-2900m, some nice, lift-served off-piste runs possible (e.g. Val d'Alas - only really short hikes necessary). Awesome landscape (Piz Palü, Bianco Ridge/Piz Bernina).

As for Austria: Stubai / Pitztal / Kaunertal seem to be the obvious choices in western Austria right now (if you have to stick to lift-served terrain).

Just got into zermatt today and some german climber chick told me they got about a meter of fresh snow last week.. looks like I came just a little too late.

by the way, does anyone want to hook up a canuck with some old ski outerwear so I can go skiing for a day or two without looking like a total gaper in my jeans and no hat/gloves style? I came here super last minute and am not very prepared..

Not from Pazzolastock, but from Gemstock, no problemo. There's soooooo much fricken snow here. And it looks like there's another big storm coming this week.

    Coming to CH.

I'm coming to Switzerland to take a canyoning course at the end of May. It was suggested that I cross post in this thread to get more traffic. Anyone who might be able to help me out with info/advice, please check out my thread at:

Even though things slowed down a bit in the Eurozone, every once in a while I still get out.
Did the Fluela Wisshorn (near Davos, CH) this past Sunday. Nothing too spectacular, but nonetheless a great time with friends and enjoyed a beautiful day. A few pics...

The ridge up to the summit

    Climbing the northern ridge

View from the summit to the Fluela Schwarzhorn

    Skiing the north face

Looking down about one quarter down

View back (skied the Wisshorn, down the glacier and skinned back up (past the "smiley-lake") to the point where this pic is taken, before dropping in again and riding back to the car)
