The ongoing freeride boom has kinda strange effect in St. Anton. On bluebird powder days they don’t even bother to open the upper lifts anymore so people don’t get to more avalanche prone terrain. This results in steady increasing popularity of skinning up to the usual places which might or might’ve been not sufficiently avalanche controlled.
One guy died at Albona in a place which in normal circumstances is tracked out completely after 15 minutes. Unfortunately since the access lift was not running, the hut at the entrance was closed thus the avalanche work was not done, the complete quite massive face went down.

Ducroz ripping spines of Corse, pretty good mind trip:

My wife and I had a trip planned two hike the GR20 two years ago. Unfortunately, her twin pregnancy had some complications and we decided to stay home instead of the potential of being stuck in a Corsican hospital for a few months [doesn't sound so bad now...]. We'll hopefully make the trip happen soon, but might have to wait 15yrs to do the GR20 with the boys.

I'm farther south (vis-à-vis Lofoten) where it's even worse than up there.

I didn't exaggerate when I said "worst in recorded history". I think I read least snow in 80 years or something, but that was a few weeks ago. The stats keep on getting worse...

    SATURDAY 09 JANUARY 2021

Day 11 for the 2020/21 Winter Season in the Brecon Beacons National Park

A late afternoon solo jaunt to ski Picws Du overlooking Llyn y Fan Fach in the western Brecon Beacons

60 minutes from car park to peak; a few photos in beautiful pink light; then the mist descended and it was combat turns back to the lake

Despite the limited visibility there is always something very special being able to ski beside a lake or the ocean

    THURSDAY 21 JANUARY 2021

Day 12 for the 2020/21 Winter Season in the Brecon Beacons National Park

A late afternoon solo jaunt to see how much snow had fallen during the latest storm around Llyn y Fan Fach

Surprisingly enough to make turns all the way back to the ridge which overlooks the car park

The steeper faces weren’t loaded enough to ski so it was ‘meadow skipping’ as the sun went down, but the late afternoon light against the rocks and snow covered slopes was majestic

    SATURDAY 23 JANUARY 2021

Day 13 for the 2020/21 Winter Season in the Brecon Beacons National Park

Another late afternoon solo jaunt to Llyn y Fan Fach

Fantastic visibility afforded views of the Welsh coast, the sea golden in the afternoon sun; the green managed landscapes of agricultural Carmarthenshire; the snow covered slopes; the lake; waterfalls; and the action of the wind blowing the snow creating frozen shapes and scenes within scenes

    The skiing was great too

Any idea how it is down south, specifically Fonna? I haven't been paying attention but hope to get back there this summer after last years phenomenal season.

The famine is north of Trondheim. South of there should be good to great. Western Norway has been getting puked on the last few weeks. The east has the most snow in years. TBH I've stopped looking at forecasts and social media, it's just too depressing.

Buddies in bergen are skiing into town. Guessing that means fonna's doing well again, but I've also had to stop looking. Think it's been a bit colder / drier there than last year though, maybe?

I don't really know what I'm talking about though.

Temps have been very mild the last week(s) with rain over 2k.

Sand blowing off the Sahara today has got the sky looking like California in wildfire season. Also the snow, and everything else is covered in a fine layer if sand. https://planetski.eu/2021/02/06/saha...s-snow-orange/

conditions south of Oberalppass (close to venduls) are not great... too much wind, too warm - nice layer of cardboard in different forms if you are into this:

also: this nice orange touch was not as strong around there.

Was wondering what all the dirt was from.

Just had one of the more surreal skiing experiences of my life. For about an hour, on a sunny powder day, I was the only person skiing powder.

    MONDAY 25 JANUARY 2021

Day 14 for the 2020/21 Winter Season in the Brecon Beacons National Park

A rarity in the Brecon Beacons this morning, being able to attach the skins to the skis at the car and ski tour to the summit of Fan Brycheiniog

The snow was consistent and fast, and Chris (@chrismorrismighty) & I were up top in no time

But not before enjoying the rising sun painting the sky and snow in candy floss colours

On the summit plateau the wind had sculpted the snow in to intricate patterns called sastrugi - terrible to ski on, beautiful to photograph

-15 in The Valley and 15 cm of crystal up high. Good day, inversion kept us warm up high and a Weißbier at the alm was also pretty cool. Good day, tomorrow I leave it to the Munich hoards and spend a easy weekend watching DH in Cortina.

Today we said goodbye to our zone in the black forest.
No base below 1000m and 20cm dust on crust above. The warm weather will probably kill everything except really high.... Still a nice farewell.. Click image for larger version.

And I have absolutely no clue why there are ads in some of my pics....
    Edit:
And I broke my second pair of Salomon qst 130 boots. Let's see whether I still get a replacement...
