Just got word they cancelled both the Les Arcs and Verbier comps, the first two stops on the IFSA World Tour due to lack of snow. Shitty!!!!!!! 200 bucks to change the plane ticket, they better have snow by april for Tignis!
Thats it, I am gonna go be a park rat.

Was in Sudtirol, the Dolomites, this weekend. Skied Arabba, Canazei, Ciampinoi among others. Pistes were so good that actually enjoyed skiing them. A lot of wind but great snow still to be found in the trees. Almost nobody skiing off-piste so there must still be plenty to ski if you know your way around there (which I dont).
The size of the area is incredible and the terrain has huge potential. If only they got more snow there.......

1/30, Chamonix. Dear Diary, we need some fucking snow.
Grands Envers today steep bits with chalky moguls makes for challenging technical steep skiing but not to be confused with a powder day.
A friend texted me to say he's at Papperla Pub in Zermatt having just finished the Haute Route though and with the clear blue skies this is an idea...

no new snow in the west in the next 5 days.
the east... maaybe.
slovakia should get some.
mid to long term: uncertain, BUT the models and Ullr actually may favour wintery patterns. It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.

Any info on Engelberg? Going there next week and the web cam pics don't look too promising?
The forecast shows some snow for next week though...maybe there's hope?
And btw. "Snow for the Euros" often seems to completely forget the most northern Europe. In another thread there was some pondering where the hell all the snow (or at least some of it) has gone? Well, in Northern Norway it's been dumping around ~1m lately. Check out e.g.

Some spam included...but I guess this is worthy of a little spamming:

Don't think Eberg is looking too hot at the mo... Got a mail from Rowana @ relaa, and he said that atleast off-pist @ Andermat required rock-skis. Andermat had about a foot of snow, most of off-pist was either windblown rocks & rubble, windcrust, glare ice after the rain, sun crust and some (sheltered n-faces) 20 cm of pow with varied base.
Everything below 2000m got around a foot of light pow (a few weeks ago), to warm ground -> you'll need some man-made snow if skiing below that 2000m level.
But according to him, it's not a complite disaster, but far from optimal.
On related note, did cha see that next weekend @ Tahko, all the new Blizzards are up for testing (same time as Skimbaaja test-center), including the fatties:

It should be snowing there from monday/tuesday to friday:

You never know...we might even get some (though the base is obviosly still pretty weak). Too bad I don't actually have any rock skis...

Yup, can't make it myself... But I'm sort of putting the pressure on others, that atleast some new blizzards wouöld be available on one of the "keskiviikkovapaa" during this spring.
And stick @ eberg, stay high and stick to lee sides... I'll be in eberg in late March, hopefully by then, the base should be OK high up..Originally Posted by RootSkier

Arno, Jiehkevarri: Please post some up-to-date info of the snow conditions @ eberg when you are there. I 'll travel there on Feb 24 and even considering to rent a car to go some other place if the conditions does not become better...

Just came back from Verbier.
If willing to hike longer you can still score plenty of freshies even though the last storm was already a week ago. Overall coverage isn't stellar though, plenty of rocks so don't bring your premium skis.

Hicks, any chance you would be in St Anton on the weekend starting Fri 9 Jan? I'm planning to go with a friend.
Also, I'll PM you with some questions on Munich/Friedrichshafen - St Anton transportation. You really need to stop knowing WTF you're talking about. (Tippster)

I'll try post some current info when @ E-berg.
Hicks:
Btw. have you already been to Jasna/Tatras? Things are starting to look ok there:
http://www.jasna.sk/page05.php?PHPSE...c154dc0e76f9b9
And forecast is some dumps for the next week.
(from my experience over 1m at the top is often already decent there. At the moment they report 1,6 at the southside top--> the wind blows the snow to some stashes and it can be suprisingly good although the ridges / most of the official slopes are pretty rocky and shitty...)
A friend is going there next week for about six weeks.Last edited by Jiehkevarri; 02-01-2007 at 03:59 AM.

Horizon,
Not sure yet whether I'll be able to sneak out, might go to SK instead. Will let you know by mid of next week.
Jiehkevarri,
Will be there early next week. Outlook is good for sure but overall base is still shitty despite their reports.

I just love Jasna in a weird kind of way. It's very small compared to the bigger Alps resort but has this strange own vibe and nice little stashes/couloirs when the snow is good.
(and I'm not starting to jinx it any more here...)
