epic! been dreaming of doing that ever since i first saw it. how difficult is the climb? a lot of rope use, technical sections, or can you get by with plunging most of the time?

You can skin from 2000m till 2600m (I didn't because I have a splitboard and no crampons for it yet, so I bootpacked). From there you go up with crampons and one iceaxe past the seracs and up until about 3450m (where I started feeling sick). You may want to rope up for the top 500m, but it is not necessary (not really more then 45 degrees, but it is a continuous 45 peppered with rocks so it can be a bit intimidating). You could also take 2 iceaxes if you want, but one is sufficient.

Does anybody know good touring around the Soca valley / Sella Nevea / Kanin / Juliske Alpe area? Will be going there this weekend to kick off the kayaking season (even less water elsewhere) and would like to earn some turns in the mornings.
    Thanks!

The skiing is not so bad in Cham with good timing, correct aspect, and high elevation. (Of course, you need to stay out of crevasses getting there....)

over here you can still ski powder, you just have to know where to go!
despite that you have to avoid crevasses and to do 2000m vertical, half of it as a bootpack!

@keksie: thumbs up sorry for not answering, but didnt had net-access in norge. maybe someone should invent tents and snowcaves with wlan. quite good touring conditions up there atm. be aware of big cornices. for acc. http://www.destinasjontromso.no/engl...mmodation.html (last entry: Magic Mountain Lodge). will post some infos on powderguide soon.

@orash: nice one! still on my list.

@herr stoiber: afaik you can also go the normalroute via the west glacier (afaik orash did the nw-face/glacier).

Hey, today in my backyard . . .

    (1.700m, skis on)

(southside of Dents du Midi not looking that good)

(but the opposite face of the lake, north, is pretty fine still and will stay so for several weeks)

(from there to about 1.800m it was fine spring snow skiing).
