    Haha balloons!

Actually, coming back from a tour I saw one of the hot air balloons seemed to have blown off course and had landed amidst some trees on the mountain... looked like it was going to suck for someone.

Who all is skiing this weekend? Looking to get out both days and don't have by agenda as of yet. Weather looks good. Finally some snow in the forecast!

it doesnt look like much. mid/long term does not look encouraging either.

I‘ll be in Innsbruck this weekend w/ the wife. Not sure where the best spots will be storm-wise, it won’t be huge anyway. Thought about Axamer Lizum or maybe drive to Arlberg. Any suggestions?

I think axamer lizum will be ok for the storm. Have you been there before?

Been there once. But snow was shit so I mainly stayed on piste. I heard schlick has nice tree skiing, maybe that’s worth a shot.

Might not get enough for a refresh in the trees. Currently looks like st. Anton, paznaun, Kaunertal, Pitztal will get a little on Friday. Saturday Zillertal and eastwards into Pinzgau. IBK area looks like dust on crust. This is all based on bergfex.at/zamg, other forecasts available.

My last ski tour had an exit through the trees. Not getting near that sh*t again unless I see 1m of new snow.

The direness has ended, temporarily at least. Rain since noon along leman.

Webcams showing decent snow in the jura already- just starting to get going in the pre-alps.

Looks like the snow line is about 1200m currently.

There’s new snow, which is exciting. But it looks like dust on crust, which is not exciting.

My amateur weathermanning sees Meteo Blue’s 14-day forecast seems to show the pattern changing... fingers crossed.

There might be a more serious trough coming in at 9days out, but the general setup with cold Greenland / new found land is not changing. Minor things and the trough goes down in eastern Europe and we have a high central Europe pattern. If it's still there in 5 days, get your hopes up. And the current model runs are the first to show it. So I would not count on it this winter.
And after that we'd still be stuck in high pressure again because the northern hemispheric setup doesn't change.

Oh and there the hope went... I'll come back from hibernation if pattern changes occur in a sub 7 days context.
And this weekend the bouldering may be limited too because some clouds (but no snow of course) may come in from the south.

Can we change strategy here and you just lie to us and tell us we’re getting tons of snow?

if that helped, i'd have my personal chicken farmer by now.

The Problem is the general northern hemispheric setup. we dont get out of that quickly. maaybe at the end of january the polar vortex comes south a bit so the alps get hit from the west, nothing cold, but at leats some moisture.

The PNW is the place to be in the next few weeks....
