Long live winter! Cham is somehow sucking all the snow into its mighty steeps. Rode Fri and Sun. Was sick Sat. Edit, I was sick fri-sun and too sick to ride saturday. Prob gonna still be sick on Tue and Wed as well, so I think i'll take a couple of sick days at that...

Anyone in cham would like to head up and ski something good off the midi wed if we get some sun let me know. I haven't got to do it once this season most on a count of not being able to get anyone to go with who is prepared to rappel and travel on a glacier.

Finally escaped the grind and put the skis back on. A mix of sun, clouds, and snow in the 74. Luckily enough sun to make some tracks in the 20-35CM dropped overnight.

Went on Saturday to the Chüealphorn near Davos (3077 m).
It was a nice day out, even though the tour is a bit short.

What started at 1800 m with almost no new snow slowly increased

    On the summit ridge

The top part was pretty good with up to 30 cm of fresh.

One more thing.... From the top of the Chüealphorn you have a good view over to the east to the Piz Linard: the mighty pyramid in the middle and the highest of the Silvretta group.

Tragic accident this past Tuesday on the south face. A slab released just before the group of 5 topped out on the SW ridge. Two persons got washed down for several hundred meters before falling over a rock band for more than 100 m. One of the persons got unbelievable lucky and survived almost unharmed, for the other person (Ivo) all help came too late.
I just met him once briefly this winter when riding in Engelberg. He will be missed by his family and friends, especially by his one year old son.
    My condolences.

    RIP Ivo

Anyone up for skiing somewhere in east Swiss tomorrow/weds? Theyre calling for 30-50cm in the Engadin, sounds pretty wild!! Looks like in the past week they've gotten near a meter at least... yay for Apri-uary!

So, I wake up today, check the web to see if the local spot is open.
With all the weather, there are some 30-50 cm waiting to be torn up.
Green lights aplenty, I text a local ride over, and get there to learn it's closed.

Now I am back home and came here to post these emodicons.

Anyone here in Switzerland a ski patroller or know one? I've got a few questions about what I need to do to become one...like where to start/classes etc. TIA!

Yesterday still a nice winterday with something like 20 - 35 cm dry fresh snow even at lower quotes (Col de Chargerat). A nice tour in complete loneliness.

    Some photos:

    Cheers.

Valais man dies in Nendaz avalanche

A 27-year-old Valais man, an off-piste snowboarder, died in Nendaz Wednesday afternoon after being carried several hundred metres by an avalanche he set off at 14:20. He and another person were going from Mt Fort via the Col des Gentianes to Tortin. His airbag opened and he stayed on top of the avalanche, but was carried over rocky outcrops. The accident was seen by several people, who immediately provided emergency aid, to no avail.

Sad news. Where was it - somewhere on the periphery of Gentianes-Tortin? Or more like Stairway or Catwalk?
