Base building will start above 2000m in the West this week. And probably some more at 1200-1500m next week. The Outlook isn't too shabby. Well see clearer at the end of this week.

    Hey all,

My girlfriend and I are going to be traveling to Zurich from Dec 16 - 30. I realize that time window is pretty early in the season. Where are the best and worst spots in the "area" for early season ski touring?
I've been looking mainly at hiring a guide to explore the Chamonix area and at Austria.

Oberalp pass is high and fairly accessible. But since we don't have a base and nothing will change before December 5, I don't see much potential anyway. Maybe something will change in the second week of December, but honestly: the eastern European high pressure is fairly strong.

    Deeper than last weekend :-)
I mean it’s November so there are plenty of rocks but they’re pretty well buried on a few of those lines which are quite nicely loaded

Hey all! May your days be filled with powder!

A question from a noob on skiing in Europe:

I have a bucket list trip from Jan 26 - Feb 2 in 3 Vallees / Meribel. Accomodations are booked for 8 and we have people flying in from all over at different times, mostly into Geneva. Super excited for the trip, keeping fingers crossed for good snow.

Other than private transfer, which won't work because many of us are arriving at different times, what is the best / easiest way to get to Meribel Centre from Geneva?

    So far, I've seen:

    * Bus -- but it looks like Ben's Bus is only on weekends and we are arriving on a Thursday. This would be easiest as it would drop us at our hotel.
    * Train -- GVA to Moutiers, then taxi/shuttle to Meribel. Bit worried about this as none of us speak French (!).
    * Private car / shared shuttle: these are difficult to book online and/or cost prohibitive for a single passenger

Thanks in advance for your sage advice.

And with a little Google fu you should be able to arrange the taxis in advance so busters language tips probably more than adequate. Also, can you ask your accommodations in Meribel to help you set up the last leg? Even if it’s a Airbnb type stay they may be able to help. I stayed in meribel 20 years ago so can’t remember the details but I was able to set up a van pickup for a reasonable price to shuttle 6 of us from the train station to village and back.

I'm headed to Kitzbuhel this weekend with the family to hit the Christmas market and to ski the weiß ribbon of death. Anyone going to be around?
Everybody's gotta have parkas. I'm talking custom parkas. Two words: "client development." They see all of you out there cutting the powder in your matching Schweikart & Cokely parkas, you'll make an impression. You will thank me later.

The snow is better further west, like Zermatt.
Plus, the Swiss will be better at extracting money from you in their Christmas markets than the Austrians.

    Good morning,
So it is snowing somewhere. Close enough for you to get the goods? Or is it a pure eye candy?
