What about the season that wasn't a few years ago, where it was raining on a baseless Baker in February.
Gotta shred what you get.

Nordkette sucked today, good views to distract from my hangover though. Snow was much better at Axamer yesterday, no vis though.

so I'm sitting in Baqueira right now, some new snow four days ago, decent stashes remain here and there, but its warm and getting springier... I live in a van so I can go on, thinking the southern Alps, La Grave, Corbier, maybe as far as Tignes? how are things down there?
I've got a couple more weeks, I could just auger in here, make new friends and tour a lot. Or I could continue the road-trip!!! any advice?? :-)
thanks mangs (and how do we say "change for a nickel" in spanish?!?! ;-)

Went today for a tour to the Zwaechten 3080 m (Meiental, central Switzerland)
Weather was great, a bit windy on top, but otherwise beautiful views.
Snow was marginal with a rain crust up to about 2000 m (that one softened up later in the day for almost spring like conditions) and above 2000 m it's mostly wind affected.
Sure we need some fresh snow and colder temps..... but hey, there are still plenty of things we enjoyed today. Go out and live life peeps!
On the up. From left to right Fleckistock, Stucklistock, the Chli Sustenhorn in the background and the Hohberg in the foreground.
On the down in the upper part (the bernese alps in the far background).
On the down in the lower part.

Another fallen skier....Claude Nobs! (organizer of the Montreux Jazz Festival). He fell while cross country skiing near his home in Montreux. Hit his head and has been in a coma for 2 weeks. Vibes. I hope he recovers.

Nice footie Paz! I really need to get out that way for some chute shooting, just too lazy.

Welcoming the change as well! Hoping that we will have enough snow for some lower valley descents....
If any mags are interested in meeting up and riding Silvretta Montafon, hit me up.
Starting next week I'll be living in a Berghütte at 1400m until the end of the season.... Its time to get stoked again!

Lots of thick surface hoar here in the sw alps, anywhere from 1500-2500m on shaded, sheltered aspects. The layer is maybe approaching 50mm thick sometimes, crystals starting to get pretty big too. It'll be interesting to see how it handles with some load on top.

Interested in thoughts between staying in Argentiere vs Cham.
Last 3 trips we've stayed right int he middle of town, then Pelerins, then Cham Sud, all were fine.
This year I have some friends who will be up in Argentiere so thinking of being nearby.
pros/cons?

Con: you won't go out drinking in Chamonix so much, if ever.
Pro: you won't go out drinking in Chamonix so much, if ever.
Can't beat Cham Sud to be first up the Midi, and you can't beat Argentiere to be first up GM. Also you're possibly a bit more likely to head to Le Tour and even Verbier from Argentiere, you really want a car there I'd say. The more limited nightlife means you might actually get to know people you see more than once. You'll definitely sleep more soundly there, parts of Cham are a racket into the early morning...
