On the other side of the Kitzbuheler Horn is St Johann in Tirol, then there's the Steinplatte/Waidring not too far away either. You can also ski the very big SkiWelt complex (Soll/Ellmau/Scheffau/Hopfgarten/Westendorf).

NB - Saas Fee looks to be the latest nucular hot spot for snow forecast.

    Roo,you bloody optimist.
Havent you seen how your snowchart dries out like a...well,something that dries very fast and totally.

Both the weekends dump and the big one predicted for the next weeks tuesday is gonna go a bit southwise.
    Hitting southern austria/NE italy and...suprise,suprise...BOVEC!

I'm keeping the faith. Alpe d'Huez won't let us down.

Bovec is a thousand mile drive from London and the terrain is lousy. The Western Alps are going to be twatted this weekend...

Since I have no language skillz and very little motivation, what makes you say that?

Would it be worth trying to get down-valley from Zermatt in order to ski there? Tree-runs? 'Cause up on the Theodulgletscher the vis. could get really ugly and I don't fancy the 5,000CHF to pull my ass out of a crevasse. In other news, Sunnegga-Blauherd-Rothorn are opening this weekend but it's mostly on a manmade base.

You will not be able to see a thing at either Zermatt or Saas Fee this weekend. Big snow and howling winds will see to that. After the storm it'll be primo but even a metre of snow isn't going to cover those yawning crevasses.

roo- i dunno about les 7 laux firsthand. that report said 0cm base just before the 30cm dump so i presume that's all there is.

check out the bolam - it's blowin up in the south. unfortunately, it seems to be stopping short of the swiss border.

And I'm prepping a talk for a conference next week, trying to submit a paper to "Geomorphology," and writing the end-of-term exam.

You should go skiing. Get Jake to give you a ride.

Sunday is the day. Finally picking up the student season pass at the Kmart. And, yes, I am banking on Jake to give me a ride once I return to the EC after my Euro trip.

The winds this morning were so strong that most of the fluffy light pow that fell in Alpe d'Huez this week is now residing in Belgium.

hey ! im positive for your destination and i DEMAND positive vibes for bovec and my trip next weekend or ill come down to france and kick your ass because it is equally far to travel from cologne !
right now im asking myself why im not going to france...
i guess because slovenia is so cheap that i can justify such a loong trip for a few days.

and i guess the red colour is just normal compaction after the huuge dump
the chart just says: snowpack changes in 6h, sooo it doesn't have to melt.

    Thumbs up

Man, you're actually going to drive all the way to Bovec? Props. That's a long old schlep. We can compare trip reports and see who scored the best pow. I have a terrible record.

It's raining from 1 pm in Grenoble, forecast looks good.
Munich this WE, then back to Gre in time for the forest runs in the Chartreuse range...

Roo, don't forget to drop me a mail/pm, we'll probably try to join you for one or two days with davidof while you are here.

We were thinking of going down to hit either Gspon or Grächen, if they got hammered, but it looks like neither will be open. I've never been to either, but they kind of look fun (and cheep).

PM me if you're looking for a ski partner in zermatt tomorrow.

Roo and Subtle, we demand detailed trip reports after your return. Hope L2A and AdH get a nice base until Christmas.
