My 15 yr. old son (BB Ridgekid) arrived last week in Chamonix to go to high school and reports in that the kids are quite cool and he will get to ski 4 days a week. His classmates informed him he is a Chaminard now.

Today was his first day skiing with a group of kids training to be either mountain guides or instructors. I was hesitant for him to bring his skins and bc gear but it sounds like they will be in the backcountry with supervision, so he is very excited.

They skied Brevant today and the conditions were quite icy but expecting snow tonight. The wife must, however, wait for her nordic trails to fill in.

A big thanks to Brian, Ed and Tom for answering my pretrip questions. It's tough turning your kid out and not being there.

speaking of kids - a 6 year old girl dies after falling 300m down a couliour in Engelberg after her ski instructor took her group offpiste.

Yep things in Cham are starting to look goood. Meteo forecasting 25-30cm AT 1000mt tonite. Up the mountain: bliss.

Forecast for next few days, remaining cold -finally- but the eastern Alps should get another arctic front hitting them on Saturday. Sadly, I think this will miss us. But at least things are looking like winters finally arrived....

I wonder how courmayeur is doing- today they should have got more than us...

Bansko should be going off huge but even the Tatrys should see more accumulation than the alpine shitholes!

Started snowing in Zermatt around 1pm up top. Fell fairly hard through most of the afternoon. It was blowing a bit, but it seemed like 5-7cm by 4pm. Not so much in town, maybe 4cm now, but was falling nicely last time I checked. Hopefully this continues all night.

Southern Eastern Alps are going off: Nassfeld in particular. It's the classic Adriatief.

    60cm in the valley
    100cm in the ski resort

... and still dumping. More snow predicted on Wednesday and Thursday.

Man, I wish I was back at my grandmother's place ...

Newspapers encourage people "to avoid Carinthia" (for once, not because of its governor but because of the snow masses)

7 meters. 7 meters. 7 meters. You know it, bitch.

Nah, I remember being in La Plagne in early January 1990. There was a whopping 5cm down low and 15cm up high but most of the higher pistes were skiable.
